Rohit Sharma Returns Home In Mercedes After Asia Cup Win
On Monday morning, the Indian cricket team arrived home from the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, drove home in a Mercedes and even posed for photos with police officials.
The batsman can be seen stepping out of his car and posing for pictures with fans and photographers in a video that has gone viral on social media. Even a few police officers could be seen posing for photos with the top Indian batter in the viral video, who was rested for the first two ODIs of India’s home series against Australia.
India’s World Cup Squad
On Monday, the roster for the three-ODI series against Australia was revealed by the Indian cricket team management. The match is being viewed as a warm-up for the World Cup. Senior players, such as captain Rohit Sharma, veteran batsman Virat Kohli, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, and in-form spinner Kuldeep Yadav, were allowed to relax after the first two games to prepare psychologically for the major event. Before the World Cup, KL Rahul will captain the team in the first two ODIs against Australia before Rohit comes back to captain a complete team in the third and final ODI. The match starts on October 5.
Along with Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar, the team for the third game essentially consists of the 15 players selected for the World Cup.
If Axar is unable to recover from injury by the September 28 deadline set by the International Cricket Council, Ashwin, who last competed in an ODI in January 2022 in South Africa, maybe a last-minute addition to the World Cup roster.
Axar missed the Sunday championship match versus Sri Lanka due to a quadriceps strain he received at the last Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.
Both Ashwin and Washington are vying for the substitute spot if Axar doesn’t recover in time, according to chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
In any case, there are two guys: Washington and him. Agarkar addressed the media in a virtual session, saying, “Look, essentially, what is being made known to us regarding Axar’s ailment is that he should be alright, and we will make it once we know that, but it provides us with the option to check on these guys if they need to go that route.
We will consider that option if the need arises, but at this time, I don’t believe there is any reason to speculate because we are hopeful that Axar is healthy, he continued.
Questions over the non-selection of an off-spinner were raised when the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel chose the 15-man team for the World Cup at home earlier this month. This was due to some of the opposition’s top players having numerous left-handers.
Ashwin was not included in the Asia Cup team, even though he should have been, Captain Rohit was questioned about this after the selection announcement on Monday. In response, the India captain said that if necessary, a player with a track record of success like Ashwin could be added immediately to the squad.
