Cody Rhodes won his first WWE Undisputed Universal Championship after a tough journey that included two Royal Rumble wins and then huge support from the WWE Universe that led him to the main event WrestleMania 40. Now that “The American Nightmare” has won the title, it doesn’t look like he is going to lose it for long. Cody has successfully defended his WWE title four consecutive times since WrestleMania 40 and it looks like he will keep the title until next year’s WrestleMania. In this article, we have listed the reasons why Cody will retain his title until WrestleMania 41.
No worthy contender
Cody Rhodes has not faced any worthy opponent since WrestleMania 40 who could capture his WWE title. AJ Styles was a good contender, but it was clear that he would not win the match against “The American Nightmare.” The other opponents he has faced so far, such as Logan Paul, Kevin Owens and Solo Sikoa, were not strong contenders for the Undisputed title. Therefore, WWE didn’t take the title away from Cody under these circumstances.
No compelling storyline
Besides there being no strong contender, there is also no compelling storyline Cody is placed in after WrestleMania 40. According to wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, WWE didn’t have any plans for Cody post his WrestleMania win. This seems true because Cody has not been placed in any dramatic storyline since WrestleMania 40. Cody’s popularity has also declined in the last few weeks, especially since Roman Reigns made his stunning return at SummerSlam 2024.
Buildup for match against The Rock
The biggest reason why Cody will retain his WWE title until WrestleMania next year is that he is expected to be booked in a match against The Rock at WrestleMania 41. There are also chances that he might retain his title against “The Final Boss.” Losing a WWE title to a WWE veteran at the peak of his career will definitely not be a wise decision by the company, so he will likely retain it. However, the storyline can have some twists. But one thing is certain that Rhodes will not drop the title at least till April 2025.
