Real Mallorca vs Osasuna: Preview
Real Mallorca form analysis
Mallorca came into this run of fixtures sitting just outside the La Liga relegation places after an inconsistent start following promotion last season. On November 26th, they put up a valiant fight away at Atletico Madrid before succumbing to a narrow 0-1 defeat thanks to a moment of quality from veteran Griezmann. Mallorca quickly bounced back by grinding out a creditable 1-1 home draw with struggling Cadiz four days later. Abdón Prats’ equalizer brought them level after conceding early to Rubén Alcaraz’s precise strike. Mallorca then battled to a hard-fought goalless draw at home against rock-bottom Alaves on December 3rd.
Their fortunes took an upward turn by beating European hopefuls Sevilla 1-0 at home on December 10th courtesy of a well-taken Larin goal. However, struggling Mallorca were unable to capitalize fully on these improved displays, succumbing to a dour goalless stalemate away at Almeria on December 17th. Overall, Mallorca have shown defensive resiliency throughout this run but a lack of firepower upfront remains an issue if they are to avoid falling into the relegation mire in the second half of the season.
Osasuna form analysis
Osasuna have produced several determined displays during this recent run of fixtures to consolidate their place in mid-table. On November 11th at home, they recovered from a 0-1 deficit to secure a creditable 1-1 draw with Las Palmas thanks to Budimir’s late equalizer. Osasuna then suffered a 1-3 defeat away at in-form Villareal on November 26th, with Catena’s goal a mere consolation as clinical veteran Morales put them to the sword. However, Osasuna quickly bounced back by grinding out a hard-fought 1-1 home draw against top-four hopefuls Real Sociedad on December 3rd despite conceding to Sadiq after taking an early lead through talisman Gómez.
They were unlucky not to beat relegation-threatened Cádiz away from home in their next match, dominating the game but having to settle for a 1-1 draw after Budimir’s late penalty canceled out Roger’s opener. Osasuna’s fortunes turned with an excellent 1-0 home win over Rayo Vallecano on December 16th courtesy of club legend Raúl García’s injury time winner. Overall, it’s been a solid run of form recently for Osasuna as they continue punching above their weight this campaign.
