According to a police spokeswoman, three unidentified members of the Real Madrid youth school were detained by Spanish police on Thursday for allegedly disseminating a pornographic film that included a juvenile. In response to a complaint made in Spain’s Canary Islands earlier this month by the mother of a 16-year-old girl who is shown in the video, officers detained the players. “The players are between the ages of 21 and 22, at Real Madrid’s training facilities,” said a Guardia Civil police spokeswoman. The Civil police stated, “They were detained on suspicion of disseminating a video containing explicit sexual material involving a minor.” The official continued, that the players were interrogated and had their mobile phones examined before being freed.
A fourth Real Madrid young player was the subject of an investigation.
The club said in a statement, “The Spanish club’s third team, Real Madrid C, and a player from Castilla, the club’s second team, “have made statements to the Guardia Civil about a complaint about the alleged circulation of a private video via WhatsApp.”
The statement said, “The club will take the required actions once it has complete awareness of the facts.”
A Real Madrid C player who reportedly videotaped himself having consensual intercourse with a 16-year-old is the main subject of the inquiry, according to the online publication El Confidencial, which broke the story and cited sources within the investigation. The report said that he afterward shared the footage with the other participants over WhatsApp without getting her permission.
The arrests occurred while a sexist discussion about the incident surrounding former Spanish football federation head Luis Rubiales’ kissing of World Cup champion Jenni Hermoso on the lips was raging in Spain. His actions at last month’s Women’s World Cup final, which Spain won 1-0 over England, drew significant criticism and resulted in both his resignation and a FIFA interim punishment. Rubiales is scheduled to appear in court on Friday for the allegedly unwanted kiss.
After hearing about the arrests, Equality Minister Irene Montero said on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that “spreading sexual images without consent also is sexual violence. We owe it to all women to uphold their rights and not turn a blind eye to injustices against them. The victim and her family have my whole support,” she added.
