Real Betis vs Girona: Preview
Real Betis form analysis
Betis have been consistently amongst the leaders in LaLiga this season, pushing for a rare Champions League qualification spot. They came into this run of fixtures strongly after an impressive start to the campaign. Betis battled to a creditable 1-1 away draw against fierce city rivals Sevilla on November 12th thanks to substitute Ayoze Pérez’s equalizer cancelling out veteran Rakitić’s opener. Betis ground out a narrow 1-0 home win over Las Palmas on November 27th courtesy of Willian José’s first half strike.
They followed that up with a gritty goalless away draw against a stubborn Almeria side on December 3rd and were unlucky not to take all three points. Facing league leaders Real Madrid at home four days later, Betis earned a credible 1-1 draw as Ruibal’s equalizer maintained their unbeaten home record. Most recently, Betis earned a valiant 0-0 away draw at European hopefuls Real Sociedad. Overall, it has been a solid run of form for Betis as they continue punching above their weight towards the top of the table thanks to organized defending and clinical finishing.
Girona form analysis
Girona came into this run of fixtures hovering just above the La Liga relegation zone after an inconsistent start following promotion last season. However, their form in this period has been generally very strong. On November 11th, they won an impressive 1-2 away victory at Rayo Vallecano thanks to goals from summer signing Dovbyk and young Brazilian Sávio. They battled hard to earn a 1-1 home draw against Athletic Bilbao on November 28th, taking the lead through Tsygankov before conceding late to Williams.
Girona then upset the odds by beating Valencia 2-1 at home on December 2nd with veteran striker Stuani scoring twice, including a late winner. Visiting the Camp Nou four days later, Girona produced a shock 2-4 away win over Barcelona led by another Dovbyk opener and Stuani’s late strike. Most recently, Girona thrashed a poor Alaves side 3-0 at home on December 19th courtesy of yet another Dovbyk double along with a Portu strike. Overall it has been an outstanding run of form for Girona, with Dovbyk and Stuani’s clinical finishing powering them up the table.
