RB Leipzig vs Augsburg: Preview
RB Leipzig form analysis
Leipzig began this run with a tight 2-3 home loss to Champions League rivals Bayer Leverkusen despite equalizing twice through Dani Olmo and new signing Openda. It was a difficult start under new coach Marco Rose.
However, Leipzig responded impressively in their next game by hammering Stuttgart 5-1 away from home. After conceding first, Leipzig roared back through goals from Henrichs, Olmo, Openda, Kampl and summer arrival Simons.
They built on this momentum with an excellent 0-3 away win at Union Berlin, marking a perfect week for Rose. Teenage striker Sesko announced himself with two superb goals off the bench after Simons had opened the scoring.
Overall, it’s been an encouraging spell for RB Leipzig after the opening day defeat. Rose’s high-intensity, attacking philosophy is beginning to shine through. If Leipzig can maintain this form, they will be confident of qualifying for the Champions League again.
Augsburg form analysis
Augsburg began this period with a thrilling 4-4 home draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach on the opening weekend. They came from 3-1 down to lead 4-3 before conceding a late penalty in an entertaining game.
However, Augsburg were then comfortably beaten 1-3 at home by champions Bayern Munich. Despite briefly leveling through new signing Beljo, Augsburg could not handle Bayern’s firepower.
In their most recent game, Augsburg had to settle for a 2-2 home draw against Bochum after twice taking the lead through summer arrivals Beljo and Demirovic but being pegged back on both occasions.
Overall, it’s been a mixed start to the new season for Augsburg under new coach Enrico Maassen. They have showcased attacking threat by scoring 8 goals in their first 3 games, with the new arrivals impressing. However, conceding 9 goals highlights concerns at the back that must be addressed.
