Rangers vs Hibernian: Preview
Rangers form analysis
Gers’ recent form in the Scottish Premiership has been inconsistent as they adjust to new manager Philippe Clement. They started this period with a disappointing 0-1 home loss in the first Old Firm derby against rivals Celtic. However, Rangers responded with a determined 0-2 away win at St Johnstone thanks to goals from new signings Danilo and Matondo. A hard fought 1-0 home victory over Motherwell followed as Dessers netted the winner. But their form dipped again in a 1-3 home defeat to Aberdeen, with Sima’s effort only a consolation. Most recently though, Rangers produced an improved display to beat St Mirren 0-3 away, with Tavernier scoring twice from the penalty spot.
Overall, Rangers have shown they can grind out wins but also looked vulnerable at times, especially defensively. Philippe Clement seems to have added dynamism in attack with the new signings, but needs to improve defensive solidity. If Rangers can blend the new faces into a cohesive unit, they have the quality to be very competitive. Rangers must start translating it into sustained form.
Hibernian form analysis
Hibernian’s recent form in the Scottish Premiership has shown signs of promise but a lack of consistency under new manager Nick Montgomery. They started this period positively with a 0-2 away win at Aberdeen thanks to late goals from Le Fondre and Doidge. However a 2-2 home draw with Kilmarnock followed as they let a two goal lead slip. Hibs returned to winning ways with a determined 2-0 home victory over St Johnstone, with Miller and Vente netting. They were unable to build momentum though, only managing a goalless draw away at Dundee next up. Most recently, Hibs drew 2-2 away at Hearts in a thrilling derby. Youan scored twice to earn them a point after trailing.
Overall, Hibs have shown they can compete with and trouble most teams in this division. New signings like Vente and Youan have added a goal threat. However, they have also looked vulnerable defensively, conceding at least twice in 3 of their last 5 games.
