The heroics of the 18-year-old Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa in the FIDE Chess World Cup caused the entire country to sit up and cheer. As the youngest Indian to participate in a Chess World Cup final, Praggnanandhaa ultimately lost to Magnus Carlsen, the current world champion, in a tie-breaker. Many people gathered at the airport to greet the winner as Praggnanandhaa arrived home to a hero’s welcome. Additionally, he met with both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. Praggnanandhaa discussed his conversation with the Indian Prime Minister in detail with the media. Praggnanandhaa was questioned about other things besides his conversation with Modi, such as cricket, and which cricketer is his favorite. In a recent interview with NDTV, the chess master R Praggnanandhaa said, “PM Modi made me feel completely at ease. He probed me about my education, my father’s occupation, etc. I had fun talking to him.”
In addition to playing chess, Pragnanandhaa also enjoys watching cricket, and if he had to choose a favorite player, it would be Ashwin.
Praggnanandhaa participated in his diet and exercise routine as well. He admitted to doing yoga and meditation. He said, “I use yoga and meditation to sharpen my focus: Praggnanandhaa. I enjoy eating Indian food before a game. I find it to be enjoyable. Ideally, I would like my mum to cook for me.”
