In a high octane Day 3 of the SA vs IND 1st Test there happened a controversial incident as off-spinner R Ashwin created a storm by issuing a Mankad warning to Proteas batter Marco Jansen. The incident happened during the 98th over of the Centurion Test. And Ashwin’s Mankad warning issued for Jansen added a pinch of excitement to an already high-octane fixture.
Instead of executing controversial Mankading, R Ashwin adopted a cautious approach by just issuing a warning to the veteran Aussies batter. During the 98th over of the fixture, Ashwin had a moment of decision when he saw Jansen leaving the crease prematurely. But the veteran off-spinner instead of completing the mankad action chose to issue a sift warning to Jansen.
Earlier in 2019, R Ashwin opted to mankad Jos Buttler in an IPL fixture which resulted in a huge debate on social media. RR was cruising in chase of 185 runs but R Ashwin chose to twist the game by dismissing set batter Buttler. Opinions were divided as some supported his stance while others objected to his move. But this time R Ashwin chose to go with a cautious approach by just issuing a soft warning instead of doing it.
Elgar shines as South Africa dominates in the SA vs IND 1st Test

South Africa asserted their dominance as they forged ahead to a pole position. Beginning the day at 256-6, Elgar’s unbeaten 140 propelled the Proteas to a competitive lead. The veteran opener in collaboration with Jansen score another crucial 100 runs. However, Elgar fell agonizingly short of a double hundred, succumbing to a quick bouncer from Shardul Thakur.
KL Rahul’s grit helped India to make a comeback
Despite Proteas’s strong performance, India showcased resilience thanks to KL Rahul’s scintillating ton. India’s openers’ stunning 101 runs knock revived India’s innings after a lethal show from South African bowlers. However, India’s bowling unit struggled to match the sharpness of South Africa’s attack & can’t stop them from taking a huge lead.
When did Ashwin get involved in Mankad?
Ashwin & Mankad has always gone hand in hand. This is not the first time that Jansen was involved in Mankad. Previously he has been involved in such incidents. In 2012, he was involved in Mankad when he ran out Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Thirimanne for backing up so far. Further, he repeated the same act in IPL 2019 when he dismissed Buttle through Mankad. But today he shocked everyone by refraining from Mankad’s dismissal.
