Ravichandran Ashwin on verge of 100th Test: Reflects on journey, growth, and gratitude
As Ravichandran Ashwin prepares for a momentous occasion, his 100th Test match, the Indian spin maestro is taking a moment to reflect on his cricketing journey, acknowledging his achievements while emphasizing the constant pursuit of improvement.
Ashwin, who has established himself as a legend of the game with 507 wickets in 99 Tests, spoke candidly about his approach to his craft during a conversation with former teammate and fellow bowling great Anil Kumble on JioCinema’s “Spin Maestros.”
Despite his impressive tally, which also includes 156 wickets in ODIs and 72 in T20Is, Ashwin revealed a surprising perspective on his success. “I always maintain, my biggest pain has been the fact that I don’t enjoy my success as much as I should have,” he said.
However, he reframed this self-critical outlook as a driving force for improvement. “But, that has also helped me become a better cricketer. I have constantly looked for things to improve and I have made sure that I am very uncomfortable with who I am on a particular day.”

While acknowledging his own relentless drive, Ashwin also expressed deep gratitude for his family’s unwavering support. “The 100th Test matters a lot to me, but it matters more to my father, mother, wife, and even my kids,” he said, recognizing the sacrifices made by his loved ones throughout his career.
