On Tuesday, the Qatar Basketball Federation announced the new Head coach of the national team of Greece, Athanasios Skourtopoulus, during a press conference at the Federation’s headquarters in the presence of QBF Secretary General Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, Director of National Teams Yassin Ismail, and Qatar Team fitness coach Nathaniel Alcidos. Kuwari expressed his happiness at the cooperation of the QBF with Coach Skortopoulos to train the Qatar team. The new coach has replaced Miodrag Perisic.
Kuwari welcomed the new coach
Al Kuwari welcomed the new coach, saying Skourtopoulus has a reputed track record as a Coach and has coached the Greek national team and several Greek clubs. He is a big name in the Coaching world in Europe. Kawari stated that the Qatar National Team has several important continental competitions coming up, including the 2027 World Cup, which will be held in Doha. Yasin Ismail has also praised the QBF for entrusting the national team with an amazing coach.
Skourtopoulus didn’t hesitate before making his decision
The director of national teams also praised the federation’s strategy, which is to mix youth and experience, Since the federation plans to build a competitive team for the future. The new coach mentioned that he didn’t think much about accepting the offer to train Qatar’s national team as he knew about the experience of his friends and coaches who worked in Doha.
Schedule of Qatar team for William Jones Cup
The Qatar team is all set to travel to Chinese Taipei to take part in the 42nd William Jones Cup in 2023. This tournament will be held from August 12 to 20, with the participation of teams that are also included in the FIBA World Cup 2023. The schedule for the Qatar team is: August 12 (USA), August 13 (Iran), August 14 (Chinese Taipei), August 15 (Philippines), August 16 (UAE), 17 August: Chinese Taipei B; 18 August: South Korea; 20 August: Japan
