Qarabag’s European form paints a picture of a spirited side capable of scoring goals but vulnerable defensively against high quality opposition. However, defensive issues remained as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat away to Napoli, unable to contain the Italian side’s attack. Their drop into the Europa League brought no improvement as defensive fragilities persisted in a 4-2 home loss to Qarabag, twice surrendering the lead despite Banza’s equaliser.
Overall, manager Artur Jorge will be encouraged by his side’s determination and moments of offensive threat from the likes of Djaló and Banza. But their tendency to concede cheap goals against strong opponents is worrying. Tightening up defensively and managing games better will be key if Braga are to translate gutsy European displays into potential Europa League progression. Their spirit makes them a threat, but shoring up vulnerabilities in defence is crucial.
