PSV Eindhoven vs Lens: Preview
PSV Eindhoven form analysis
Boeren started October with mixed results, defeating Fortuna Sittard 3-1 at home with goals from Til, Ramalho, and Bakayoko. However, they drew 1-1 against Lens in UEFA Champions League play, taking the lead through Bakayoko before conceding a late equalizer. PSV then achieved an impressive 5-2 victory over fierce rivals Ajax. They twice came from behind to lead 3-2 at halftime through Lozano and de Jong goals before Lozano added two more in the second half.
Entering November, PSV showed further improvement in domestic play with a resounding 6-0 thrashing of Heracles. De Jong opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Schouten, Tillman, Ramalho, Til, and Pepi all found the net in a dominant second half performance. Overall in October and early November league matches, PSV scored an impressive 14 goals while only conceding 3.
The lone draw against Lens was a disappointment, PSV’s domestic form has been excellent and they will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming UEFA Champions League and Eredivisie fixtures. On current form, PSV look well placed to challenge for both domestic and European honors this season.
Lens form analysis
Lens began October with a disappointing 1-1 draw against rivals Lille, conceding first before Machado’s equalizer. They were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Le Havre in their next domestic match. However, Lens showed promise in their UEFA Champions League match against PSV, taking an early lead through Wahi to cancel out Bakayoko’s opener in a 1-1 draw.
Encouragingly for Lens, they bounced back well in Ligue 1 with a dominant 4-0 victory over Nantes. Sotoca scored twice, including a penalty, while Medina and El Aynaoui also found the net in a complete team performance. Their momentum was halted however in their following match, playing to a 0-0 draw against Lorient.
While results have been mixed, some positives for Lens have been the goalscoring form of Sotoca and contributions from players like Wahi and Medina. Defensively they have been sound for the most part, though conceding first against Lille was disappointing.
