PSG vs Strasbourg: Preview
PSG form analysis
PSG’s recent Ligue 1 results show a team still excelling in attack but with some defensive concerns. They started this period by demolishing Lyon 4-1 away, powered by Mbappe’s brace. However defensive issues were apparent in their next game as they lost 2-3 at home to Nice, despite Mbappe and new signing Ramos on target. PSG responded emphatically by thrashing rivals Marseille 4-0, with goals from Hakimi, Kolo Muani and a Ramos double. They were unable to build momentum though, drawing a blank in a 0-0 away stalemate at Clermont. Most recently, PSG earned an impressive 1-3 away win at Rennes thanks to goals from Vitinha, Hakimi and Kolo Muani.
Overall, PSG’s awesome attacking talent makes them huge title favorites again under Christophe Galtier. Mbappe and Neymar have been lethal, aided by new additions like Ramos. However, uncharacteristic defensive lapses have crept in at times. If Luis Enrique can restore their solidity when not in possession, PSG could be formidable. But their current ability to simply outscore opponents makes up for any issues at the back in Ligue 1.
Strasbourg form analysis
Strasbourg have struggled for form and consistency in their recent Ligue 1 matches. They started this period with a disappointing 0-2 home defeat to Nice after conceding either side of halftime. A 2-2 home draw with Montpellier followed as they twice came from behind through an own goal and Mothiba’s strike. Strasbourg returned to winning ways by grinding out a 0-1 away victory at Metz thanks to Diarra’s late goal. However, they were unable to build momentum, losing 0-1 at home to Lens after conceding early. Most recently, Strasbourg suffered a 1-2 home loss to Nantes, with only a last minute Sahi consolation after trailing by two goals.
Overall, Strasbourg’s form has tapered off after an excellent previous season. They have lacked attacking spark, scoring just 4 goals in their last 5 matches. New coach Patrick Vieira needs to find more creativity going forward. Defensively they remain reasonably solid but struggle to capitalize on this. If Strasbourg can rediscover their goal threat, they have the tools to bounce back from this mediocre spell. But increasing their offensive productivity is crucial to turn draws into wins.
