Sevilla are looking for their second win of the season when they host Almeria in the La Liga. The home squad, who are now 16th in the standings, will enter the game following a goalless draw with Osasuna. Bottom-of-the-table Almeria just played out a 2-2 tie with Valencia.
Preview (Sevilla vs. Almeria)
Last season, Sevilla finished 12th in La Lig. It was their lowest performance in Spain’s top division since being demoted in the 1999-2000 season. Last season, Jose Luis Mendilibar was able to guide the team to the Europa League title. It guaranteed them a spot in the 2023–24 Champions League group stage. Last week, they began their European campaign with a 1–1 draw against Lens at Estadio Ramon. Sevilla returned to La Liga action on Saturday and drew 0-0 with Osasuna. It moved them up to 16th place in the standings with four points from five games.
Los Nervionenses’ league campaign began with three straight defeats against Valencia, Alaves, and Girona. Their four points came from their last two games. It included a 1-0 victory over Las Palmas in their final home game in Spain’s top division. A victory on Tuesday would prepare them well for a crucial match away to Barcelona on September 29. There have been incremental improvements in recent games. While Valencia and Almeria drew 2-2 on Saturday, Sergio Arribas scored twice for the home team at Power Horse Stadium to give him four goals for the year. The attacker will undoubtedly be a player to watch in 2023–24.
La Union just avoided relegation from Spain’s premier division last season, ending in 17th place. It was only one point above the bottom three, so their problems this season are not entirely unexpected. Due to two draws and four losses in their six league games this season, UDA has only earned two points. They are placing them at the bottom of the standings. Prior to earning a point against Cadiz, Vicente Moreno’s team’s season began with consecutive losses against Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid. After consecutive losses to Villarreal and Celta Vigo, Almeria drew with Valencia on Saturday, and they will attempt to earn their first victory of the year on Tuesday night.
Team News
At the moment, Sevilla is dealing with a number of injuries. The injuries included those to Mariano Diaz, Sergio Ramos, Suso, Marcos Acuna, Marcao, Tanguy Nianzou, and Alfonso Pastor. Youssef En-Nesyri is probably going to start at center forward again. Mendilibar may still make alterations to the lineup that faced Osasuna last time out. Aside from Dodi Lukebakio, who scored against Las Palmas earlier this month, Adria Pedrosa and Erik Lamela are also expected to start on Tuesday. Marc Pubill, Alejandro Pozo, and Martin Svidersky will be out injured for Almeria.
Although the visitors didn’t sustain any new injuries against Valencia, there will probably be lineup changes, with Largie Ramazani perhaps replacing Adri Embarba. Another substitution in the middle of the field, similar to the one made during the second half of the match against Valencia, would be Ibrahima Kone for Dion Lopy. Although Sevilla has yet to truly get going this season, they will come into this match with a three-game winning streak, which includes a victory over Las Palmas in their most recent home league game. Although Almeria can win this match, we are only betting on a slim Sevilla victory.
Sevilla 1 – 0 Almeria
