Queen Park Rangers will host Plymouth Argyle in the Championship on Wednesday. The fact that the visitors to Loftus Road are three points ahead of a resurgent QPR in 22nd place. The table shows how multiple teams have been added back into the equation.
Preview (Queens Park Rangers vs. Plymouth Argyle)
This season, managers have occasionally been replaced when they shouldn’t have been, but QPR has not experienced this. Three consecutive Championship victories have resulted from Marti Cifuentes’ unanticipated turnaround at Loftus Road. It began with their first victory there since March. Victories over Stoke City, Preston North End, and Hull City have snapped a 12-game losing streak. They netting eight goals in the process. More impressively perhaps, the Hoops have maintained two straight clean sheets. It has put the West Londoners within three points of their next opponents.
Just nine points separate the bottom seven, and Sheffield Wednesday is doing similarly below them. This puts further pressure on Plymouth, who are once again in the running for relegation. They will attempt to merely make it through the second division this season, with six points from four games. They now run the risk of their 22nd-place opponents catching up to them on points.
Schumacher won’t have to worry about Plymouth’s performance at Home Park because they have an amazing home record—the seventh-best in the division. But from 10 away games, the Pilgrims have only managed three wins and seven losses. On Saturday, they lost 4-0 to Leicester City, the league leaders, with three of those goals occurring in a six-minute stretch following halftime.
Team News
It’s possible that Cifuentes is opposed to changing the starting lineup from QPR’s victory over Hull. It may be preferred to stick with an offensively inclined lineup, even though Jack Colback is a viable possibility if he recovers from a knock. Osman Kakay, who has frequently alternated with Reggie Cannon at right-back, is a backup option if Cifuentes wishes to bring in new blood. In the meantime, having rested some of his star players and considering how they gave up at King Power Stadium, Schumacher is probably going to make changes to his Plymouth team.
Potential replacements for them on the team include Ryan Hardie, Luke Cundle, Dan Scarr, Brendan Galloway, Jordan Houghton, and Kali Mumba. This season, Plymouth has already demonstrated their ability to produce quality performances in the second division. But that has only occurred at Home Park, and we are rooting for QPR to add another victory to their growing resume along with a clean sheet.
