Monaco will be looking for their first home win this year when they host Paris Saint-Germain. With a thrilling 3-2 victory at Lens, Les Monegasques regained their Champions League spot. The league leaders went undefeated in 2024 after securing a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Rennes.
Preview (Monaco vs. Paris Saint-Germain)
Since the campaign resumed in 2024, Monaco’s domestic play has resembled a ping-pong match. There were rapid swings from excellent to bad. The Principality club gave us both a demonstration on Sunday. They throwing away two leads but winning in stoppage time to move back into third place. They are one point ahead of their bitter rivals Nice and two adrift of Brest for second. Since December 2023 (twice), Adi Hutter’s team has not won back-to-back Ligue 1 games. Additionally, they have lost their previous four home games at Stade Louis II. Monaco has only managed one point from their three home Ligue 1 games this year in the Principality. It is their joint-lowest total since 1966 (one point from their first five home games).
Their ability to score goals has been one of their constants in 2024; excepting their 2-1 victory over Toulouse in 2023, they have scored goals in nine straight games across all competitions. They have defeated PSG three times in a row at Stade Louis II in the top tier, scoring three goals each time. They have produced some outstanding performances at home against PSG. Les Parisiens persevered until the very end, earning a single point last weekend courtesy of a goal in the 97th minute, despite the fact that it was hardly their most visually appealing performance of the season.
With at least a point in their first 22 games under former manager Thomas Tuchel, they have now gone 18 games without losing in Ligue 1. It is their longest winning streak in this tournament. This team has won at least 17 games without losing a top-division match for the fifth time this century and the seventh time overall—four more than any other team in the French top flight.
