Las Palmas will look to make it three wins in a row when they host Rayo Vallecano in the La Liga. After gaining nine points from their previous four La Liga games, the home team moved up to the tenth position. Rayo, with thirteen points from their nine games in 2023–24, is in eighth place.
Preview (Las Palmas vs. Rayo Vallecano)
After being promoted from the Segunda Division the previous season, Las Palmas struggled to acclimate to life at this level, as seen by their meager two points from their opening league games. But during the past month, Los Amarillos have been outstanding, winning nine of their four games. They won their past two games against Celta Vigo and Villarreal. Garcia Pimienta’s team now sits in 10th place in the standings with 11 points from nine games.
Things may change rapidly, as seen by Las Palmas’ current four-point deficit to sixth-place Real Sociedad. The team appears to have enough quality to make it through this season. La Union Deportiva had to compete in the Segunda Division for five seasons before making it back to this level. They haven’t placed higher than 11th in the top division of Spain since taking sixth place in 1978–79. Pio Pio has a lot to strive for this season. Rayo, on the other hand, has also had a strong start to the season. Through nine games, they have recorded three victories, four draws, and two losses.
Although Los Franjirrojos enter this game riding a six-game winning streak across all competitions, their last four games—all in La Liga—have all ended in draws. In fact, Francisco’s team drew with Cadiz, Mallorca, Villarreal, and Sevilla before playing a 2-2 draw with them before the international break. At Estadio Ramon, Rayo really had a 2-0 lead against Sevilla. The home team rallied to tie the game, scoring their second goal in the 96th minute.
The Vallecas-based team has placed 12th and 11th in their previous two seasons at this level. It wouldn’t be shocking to see them at the end of the year in a similar spot. In their most recent La Liga matchup, which took place in February 2016, Rayo prevailed 2-0. However, the two teams had drawn in three of their previous four games.
Team News
Right now, Eric Curbelo, Julián Araujo, Omenuke Mfulu, Sandro Ramirez, Benito Ramirez, Alberto Moleiro, and Fabio Gonzalez are all out for Las Palmas due to injury. It would not be shocking to see the same starting lineup for this match as the home team did not suffer any new injuries during their victory against Villarreal. Last time out, Munir El Haddadi played in a wide area. This time around, it’s anticipated that he will do the same as Marc Cardona. He has two goals in the league this season and operates through the middle.
While Khalid Abdul Mumin is back in action after serving a suspension, Rayo’s roster is healthy. The only known absence for this game is Randy Nteka. He will be out until November due to a muscular issue. Francisco, the head coach, will need to make judgments on the forward positions. Sergio Camello may be called back, and he may play alongside Raul de Tomas.
In midfield, Alvaro Garcia and Oscar Valentin are expected to start, and Isi Palazon is expected to stay on the right. As a result, Jorge de Frutos will probably have to settle for a role as a substitute once more. Although Rayo is a tough team to beat, Las Palmas is currently playing very well, so we had to settle for a scoreless draw. When the two clubs faced in the first division of Spain in 2015–16, Rayo easily defeated Las Palmas, but we anticipate a share of the points on Sunday.
