Atletico Madrid will be looking to win their seventh game when they host Las Palmas in the La Liga. With one game remaining, Diego Simeone’s team is three points behind Real Madrid at the top. Las Palmas is in tenth place with 14 points from their first 11 games of the season.
Preview (Las Palmas vs. Atletico Madrid)
Las Palmas struggled to start the season, winning only one of their first seven La Liga games. However, they have been in fantastic form recently, winning four of their last five games overall. Garcia Pimienta’s team has won three of their past four La Liga games. They will come into this encounter fresh off a 3-0 Copa del Rey victory over Manacor. Last weekend, Las Palmas defeated Almeria 2-1 in the league as well. With 14 points from 11 games, they are currently ranked 10th in the standings.
They have had a difficult season scoring goals, only managing eight in their 11 games. It is the lowest attacking total in the division. However, they have played solid defense, giving up just 10 goals. It is the third-best in the division behind Real Madrid’s eight and Atletico Madrid’s nine. In their most recent La Liga matchup, Los Amarillos, placed second in the Segunda Division the previous season. That matchup occurred in January 2018. Real Madrid and Barcelona have received a lot of attention in La Liga this season. As is frequently the case, Atletico’s stellar start has gone mostly unnoticed.
With ten league games played this season, Simeone’s team has won eight, drawn one, and lost one. It placed them third in the standings with 25 points. They are just three points behind Real Madrid at the top with one game remaining. Since their 3-0 loss to Valencia in mid-September, which was unquestionably the low point of their campaign so far, Atletico has won six straight league games, including a 2-1 success over Alaves on Sunday. In the meantime, the Red and Whites are second in their Champions League group. They are trailing Feyenoord in Group E with five points after three games. Atletico is currently very much in the running for the championship.
Team News
Due to injuries, Sandro Ramirez and Fabio Gonzalez will miss more games for Las Palmas, and Jonathan Viera is still questionable because of a personal matter. The Copa del Rey on Tuesday saw significant changes, as was to be expected, but the team’s main players—Marc Cardona, Saul Coco, Alvaro Valles, and Marvin Park—will be back in the lineup for this match. Munir El Haddadi will likely stay in a wide role for the home team; the starting lineup from the previous league matchup against Almeria may not alter. Regarding Atletico, Reinildo, Thomas Lemar, Samuel Lino, Memphis Depay, and Vitolo are still not available for selection.
Starting against Alaves, Rodrigo Riquelme looked impressive and scored a goal; on Friday night, the Spaniard should continue to play well. With Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata expected to start in the last third of the field, there shouldn’t be any major surprises in the Atletico XI. Pedro Barrios is another midfield option, while Marcos Llorente is vying for a start, although Saul Niguez is predicted to retain his starting position. Since both sides have played excellent defense this season and Las Palmas has struggled to score goals, our prediction is an easy victory for the away club.
