Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors will host Ulsan Hyundai in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League. North Jeolla Province’s team defeated Pohang Steelers 3-1 overall in their final 16 match. Ulsan defeated Ventforet Kofu 5-1 overall.
Preview (Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors vs. Ulsan Hyundai)
With a convincing 2-0 win in their first knockout round match, Jeonbuk remains, as we have come to expect, a contender for the Champions League title. Dan Petrescu’s team has a perfect home record in this competition. They have scored several goals in each of their previous meetings. This team has been to the knockout stage in five of the last six tournaments. They have only once advanced to the semifinals (2021–22). Jeonbuk has won their last three games in all competitions after dropping their first two games of the year. They haven’t lost a competitive home game yet. Fortunately, those two losses were club matches.
Since losing a shootout in 2018-19 against Shanghai SIPG after blowing an early 1-0 lead. Jeonbuk has not lost a knockout match while scoring the first goal. Ulsan Hyundai comes into this game with a winning streak of three games in a row. They have an undefeated record in their last six competitive games. Hong Myung-bo’s team gained momentum in the Champions League group stage after putting up a few uneven performances in the opening stages of the competition. They have already won three of their past four group matches. This team has a perfect record this season in the competition when they score first, scoring several goals in each of those games.
They lost four straight away games in all competitions from early October to November 24 of last year, but they have since won two straight. Ulsan Hyu defeated Pohang Steelers 1-0 at the end of February to start their K League 1 title defense. They are one of four teams in that competition to win their first game. Ulsan Hyundai defeated Jeonbuk 3-2 in extra time to advance to the quarterfinals of this tournament, where they had never lost.
Team News
Due to a leg ailment sustained in mid-February, Jeonbuk’s top scorer at the tournament, Hernandez, may be sidelined, and Kwan Chang-hoon is enduring a heel sore. Last round, Jeong Tae-wook scored their lone goal in leg two as they played to a 1-1 tie, while Rodrigues and Ahn Hyeon-been scored in their opening leg victory as Kim Jeong-hoon kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory. Due to an injury that was not immediately apparent in early November, Darijan Bojanic, a Swedish midfielder, will probably miss Ulsan’s matchup with this team. On a night when Kim Ji-Hyeon also scored in a 2-1 victory, Joo Min-kyu scored in both legs of their round of 16 match, including the game-winning goal in the second encounter.
