Preview (Granada vs. Las Palmas)
With just 11 points from their first 22 games of the season, Granada is firmly in the relegation zone. They are 19th place in the standings. Though not terrible at this point, the Andalusian team is currently out of form. They have lost their previous three games against Real Betis, Atletico Madrid, and Getafe. They are currently six points from safety in 17th place. This season, Alexander Medina’s team has only managed to accumulate 10 points from their 11 home league games. Defensively, they have been quite poor, giving up 44 goals in 22 games—the third-worst defensive record in the division.
The defending Segunda Division winners signed seven players in January. When the two teams faced off in the same game of the 2016–17 La Liga season, Granada prevailed 1-0. Las Palmas prevailed 1-0 when they met previously in the season. Although Las Palmas will be coming off a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid at home, they have had a great season and are now sitting in ninth place in the table with 31 points from their first 22 games.
A European finish is not out of the question for Los Amarillos. They are only five points behind Real Sociedad in sixth place. It would be an outstanding debut season back at this level of football. During the 2023–24 season, La Union Deportiva, who placed second in the Segunda Division the previous year, had accrued 13 points from their 11 away league games. With just 19 goals conceded, Garcia Pimienta’s team has the second-best defensive record in the top tier of Spain this year. Their campaign has been based primarily on their defense since they have only scored 22 goals in 22 games.
