Preview (Getafe vs. Rayo Vallecano)
Girona’s fantastic run makes them the surprise package in La Liga this season. Getafe’s performances and outcomes are also impressive. The capital team sits in eighth place in the table after 18 games. With 26 points from 26 games this season—six victories, eight draws, and four losses—Bordalas’s squad is only two points behind seventh-place Real Betis and five points behind sixth-place Real Sociedad going into the first round of 2024 fixtures. Getafe is coming into this game with a four-game winning streak. Three of which have been in the league against Valencia and Sevilla.
Before the winter break, the team from the capital drew 3–3 away to Atletico; two goals in the last moments of the match at Wanda Metropolitano gave the visitors a great point. The Deep Blue Ones are unbeaten at home in the league this season, having won five and drawn three of their eight games. They have finished 15th in each of their last three campaigns at this level. However, too many draws have prevented them from rising higher up the standings. Since October 22, Los Franjirrojos have not won a league game. They have also dropped their last three league games, including their last two against Osasuna and Valencia.
Only 16 goals have been scored by Rayo this season, and Francisco has had trouble finding the right combination in the final third of the field. Both Sergio Camello and Raul de Tomas have made 14 league appearances this season without scoring a goal. Rayo has not defeated Getafe away from home since January 2015. Their three league encounters with them this season have all ended in draws. It included a 1-1 draw in the comparable game.
Team News
Due to a chronic knee injury, Mauro Arambarri will not be playing for Getafe again. Oscar Rodriguez is suspended because of the booking he received against Atletico. Borja Mayoral, who scored 12 goals in the league in 2023–24, will play in the last third once more.
Regarding Rayo, Oscar Trejo is unable to play because of a muscle ailment, and Oscar Valentin will need to do a late fitness test because of a similar muscle ailment. Before the international break, Francisco, the head coach, is anticipated to make a few changes to the starting lineup that defeated Valencia 1-0. Bebe and Randy Nteka could start. Despite his lack of goals this season, De Tomas should continue to start in the final third, and on Tuesday, Unai Lopez is predicted to start in center midfield once more.
