Fulham will host Everton after both teams were knocked out of the FA Cup in midweek. Shortly after the Toffees lost 2-1 to Luton Town, Marco Silva led his team to a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday, matching cunning against his former team.
Preview (Fulham vs. Everton)
The Magpies’ performance at Craven Cottage left much to be desired, even with Newcastle enjoying a 14-day break from competitive activity before to an FA Cup fourth-round matchup with Fulham, who had just three days to recover from their EFL Cup defeat at the hands of Liverpool. Even yet, aside from Willian’s disallowed goal early in the second half, Silva’s lackluster team had the necessary cutting edge to overcome Martin Dubravka, and efforts from Sean Longstaff and former Cottagers defender Dan Burn did the damage in West London.
Though they thought the ball had deflected into the midfielder’s path via Bruno Guimaraes’ arm. Fulham were ecstatic when Longstaff’s strike found the net. Nevertheless, the VAR room saw no reason to disallow the goal. The wall of green shirts held firm against Fulham’s abject attacks in the second half. After suffering two cup exits in a week, Fulham’s main goal from now until June is to move out of an unfortunate 13th place in the Premier League standings. They endured four losses from five top-flight games during the winter. Their hopes of finishing in the top half took a serious knock.
Although Silva’s team deserves all the credit for their thrilling victory over Arsenal on New Year’s Eve, the Cottagers have failed to earn a point or even score a goal in their matches against Chelsea, Bournemouth, Burnley, and Newcastle. But they have scored 19 of their 28 goals and earned 18 of their 24 points so far this season at Craven Cottage. Fulham hasn’t performed well away from home since crushing Everton at Goodison Park on the first weekend of the season.
Team News
Harry Wilson attempted to continue after tripping over his shoulder awkwardly during the first half. He was forced to end the game shortly before halftime. As a result, Willian ought to be added back into the starting lineup without delay. Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, and Folde Ballo-Toure have not yet finished their Africa Cup of Nations duties and Adama Traore’s thigh injury will undoubtedly make Tuesday’s matchup too soon for him. As he did on Saturday, Silva will make adjustments during another harsh 72-hour turnaround. Rafael Jimenez, Joao Palhinha, Tosin Adarabioyo, Timothy Castagne, and Bernd Leno will all benefit from this rotation.
Ashley Young was back on the bench for Everton’s FA Cup loss against Luton. He did not sustain any injuries. Fellow full-back Seamus Coleman (thigh) may return for the journey south. Due to his most recent calf setback, Andre Gomes is now more of a question. Idrissa Gueye is still currently serving as an AFCON representative. Dele Alli (groin) and Abdoulaye Doucoure (hamstring) are still under the care of physiotherapists. The only change that the Toffees may make is switching Jordan Pickford for Joao Virginia in goal. The Toffees will not be making any major changes.
