Everton are looking for a fifth win in a row when they host Fulham in the EFL Cup. The Toffees advanced to the round of eight after defeating Burnley 3-0 in the fourth round. Marco Silva’s team defeated Ipswich Town 3-1 to win the Championship.
Preview (Everton vs. Fulham)
Even if some of Sean Dyche’s Everton players are still in shock over their historic 10-point deduction, their fire still burns bright within their bellies, and they have turned their rage into some very impressive top-flight performances. Many anticipated that Dyche would teach his former team a lesson in football on Saturday after they had already defeated Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, and Chelsea this month without giving up a goal. This expectation was realized in the evening kickoff.
With 19 minutes remaining, Amadou Onana’s towering header put the Toffees ahead. Michael Keane, a former player for the Clarets, rubber-stamped the victory with a straightforward. The defender did not hold back in his celebrations as he increased Everton’s chances of surviving. Burnley manager Vincent Kompany had not taken any lessons from Everton’s 3-0 EFL Cup fourth-round victory. Everton had narrowly prevailed away at Doncaster Rovers and Aston Villa.
The Toffees made it to the penultimate hurdle for the first time since the 2015–16 season. They were defeated by Manchester City in the semi-finals. The team participated in the quarterfinals two consecutive years in the 2019–20 and 2020–21 campaigns. Dyche made a spectacular comeback to his former haunt this past weekend. Former Everton manager Marco Silva will try to emulate his rival on Tuesday. The Cottagers might be 90 minutes from making their first-ever EFL Cup semifinal appearance. However, Fulham’s hopes of a third straight victory vanished in a second-half assault, as Lewis Miley, Miguel Almiron, and Dan Burn condemned the Cottagers to a third consecutive loss on the road, following Raul Jimenez’s dismissal for an astonishing clattering of Sean Longstaff.
Team News
Idrissa Gueye and Jarrad Branthwaite, who both received Premier League suspensions against Burnley this past weekend, will serve their suspension terms out of the cup, although they can make their comebacks in the quarterfinals. With a “niggle” that kept him out of the Turf Moor game, Dyche says Vitaliy Mykolenko should also strive for a return to the starting lineup. However, Demek Alli (groin), Andre Gomes (fitness), Ashley Young, and Seamus Coleman are all anticipated to miss this one. Due to midfield pivot Abdullaye Doucoure’s hamstring strain, which has since surfaced as a question for the quarterfinal, Dyche was forced to leave the game at halftime during the victory over Burnley. As a result, the returning Gueye may receive an early recall.
Everton will be without two players while Fulham’s Jimenez, who was starting to show signs of his former prolific self, will serve a three-match suspension for receiving a straight red card in the team’s defeat to Newcastle. This will leave Carlos Vinicius and Rodrigo Muniz to compete for the number nine spot. Calvin Bassey is in a race against time to show that he is well for Tuesday after contracting an illness before the weekend.
