Coventry City will host Sheffield United in an all-Championship fourth-round replay in the FA Cup. The Owls battled late to hold their next opponents to a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough last time out. The winner of the rematch will get to host Maidstone United, a sixth-tier team, in round five.
Preview (Coventry City vs. Sheffield Wednesday)
Victor Torp, a January acquisition, made the best possible impression on the Coventry supporters by scoring a tremendous long-range goal into the roof of the net to break the deadlock against Sheffield Wednesday. It was Torp’s debut for Mark Robins’ team. The 24-year-old’s Coventry baptism would not finish happily, however, as Djeidi Gassama found a gap at Ben Wilson’s near post and managed to sneak home the equalizer with just six minutes remaining in normal time, leaving Robins’s team to lament their inability to win the match.
The Sky Blues’ three-match losing skid began with the Hillsborough draw. They finished January with a 2-2 Championship draw against Bristol City at home. On Saturday, their 12-game undefeated record came to an end at Norwich City’s Carrow Road headquarters. Calum O’Hare’s opening effort to be insignificant. As a result, Coventry dropped out of the playoff spots and into seventh place.
Coventry would be following a familiar pattern if they lost on Tuesday, having alternated between fourth-round and third-round exits since the 2019–20 FA Cup. However, they welcome Sheffield Wednesday to their West Midlands heartland. They have lost just once in front of their home supporters all season. Coventry scored at least two goals in each of their previous five Coventry Building Society Arena games. They have also avoided defeat in each of their last nine games on home ground. The last was a Halloween scare in a 2-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion at the end of October.
Team News
Liam Kitching was sent off in the second half of the game for a last-man foul on Sargent. This did not help Coventry’s attempts to gain any momentum from Carrow Road. Joel Latibeaudiere ought to be summoned back up to Robin’s defense right away because the defender will miss Tuesday’s replay due to suspension due to red card accumulation in all competitions. The hosts are largely healthy, except former Arsenal prospect Ben Sheaf. He will miss six to eight weeks due to a hamstring injury he sustained at Bristol City.
Regarding Sheffield Wednesday, Callum Paterson hasn’t been spotted in an Owls uniform since sustaining a concussion during the Championship game against Coventry on Boxing Day. It’s currently unknown when the striker will be available to play again. The visitors are also without Dominic Iorfa (leg), and they will also be unable to use the two deadline-day loan arrivals, Ian Poveda of Leeds United and Kristian Pedersen of Swansea City. James Beadle, the goalkeeper for Brighton & Hove Albion, has also been affected by the cup-tied regulation; therefore, Pierce Charles, 18, will represent the Owls at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
