Bayern Munich will look to get their campaign on track when they host Freiburg in the Bundesliga. The away team, on the other hand, defeated Augsburg 2-0 last weekend.
Preview (Bayern Munich vs. Freiburg)
Bayern, who had already drawn by the same score against Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the season. They lost ground to the league’s top team last weekend after playing a 2-2 draw away to RB Leipzig. The conditions were different from that game, though, when they twice let a lead slip away at the Allianz Arena. This time, they fell behind 2-0 early on against one of the best sides in the nation. Goals from Harry Kane and Leroy Sane after the break ensured they wouldn’t head home empty-handed to Bavaria.
The team led by Thomas Tuchel once more battled back to win in the middle of the week. Bayern maintained their perfect record in the Champions League by defeating Copenhagen 2-1 in Denmark. The hosts had taken the lead through Lukas Lerager after 55 minutes. Jamal Musiala tied the score 12 minutes later before Mathys Tel, a substitute. If Xabi Alonso’s team defeats winless FC Koln as predicted earlier in the day, Bayern could find themselves five points behind Leverkusen by the time they kick off on Sunday, making it imperative that the Bavarians stay in striking distance of their rivals before the upcoming international break.
Christian Streich’s team won at the Allianz Arena in the DFB-Pokal last season. They will be attempting to build on that success on Sunday. This despite not having defeated Bayern in the Bundesliga since a 2-1 victory at Europa-Park Stadion in May 2015. Breisgau-Brasilianer has performed above expectations in the last two seasons. They finished fifth and sixth and earned a spot in the Europa League each time. However, their ultimate objectives of making the Champions League and winning the club’s first-ever major trophy were agonizingly missed when they lost to Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal on penalties in 2022, and their last time-out finished three points behind fourth-placed Union Berlin.
Team News
Along with Matthijs de Ligt, Tarek Buchmann, and Gabriel Marusic being unable to play on Sunday. Bayern will continue to be without Serge Gnabry and Manuel Neuer. Konrad Laimer is likely to switch back to a new position at right-back. It will force Noussair Mazraoui to the bench. Leon Goretzka, who only played off the bench for the hosts in midweek, is almost certain to take his place in the team’s engine room once again. While Nicolas Hofler is still suspended domestically, Freiburg will likely be without Yannik Keitel, Benjamin Uphoff, Max Rosenfelder, Christian Gunter, and Daniel-Kofi Kyereh due to injuries.
If Keitel is ruled out due to a groin injury, Merlin Rohl might be expected to replace him in midfield alongside Maximilian Eggestein, leaving the visitors without a natural holding midfielder for what would likely be their most difficult game of the year. While Freiburg still has a lot of attacking skill, their defensive and midfield areas are obviously weaker right now due to injuries and Hofler’s ban, therefore we do not hold out much optimism that they will be able to stop Bayern. After acquiring England striker Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur during the summer, the Bavarians have increased their offensive tempo. With two extra days of rest on their side, they should have more than enough on Sunday to secure a victory.
Bayern Munich 3 – 0 Freiburg
