Granada will be looking to end a seven-match winless streak when they visit Arosa in the Copa del Rey. The hosts compete in fifth-tier league football. They will be looking to pull off a massive upset in the first-round match.
Preview (Arosa vs. Granada)
Arosa is excited to play in the top cup tournament in Spain for the first time since the 1993–94 campaign. They secured their position in the playoffs and the first round of the Copa del Rey by finishing in second place in Group 1 of the Tercera Federacion with 58 points from their 30 games played. Arosa started the new season slowly. They collected just two points from their first four games after failing to advance via the playoffs. They will, however, carry some momentum into the cup match on Thursday.
Granada has found it difficult to adjust to life in the top division after being promoted back to La Liga. They have only won one of their 11 league games, leaving them stuck in the relegation zone. Matchday three saw the lone triumph over Mallorca. It ultimately resulted in Granada going more than two months without a victory. The Andalusian team has only managed three points in their last eight games. They enter Thursday’s cup fixture fresh off losses to Villarreal and Osasuna.
In Monday’s match against the Yellow Submarine, Granada had a chance to rally after goals from Ricard Sanchez and Myrto Uzuni narrowed Villarreal’s three-goal lead in a thrilling first half. However, Granada was unable to produce an equalizer in the second half. Granada might see the midweek cup encounter as their greatest opportunity to record their first clean sheet of the year after giving up 28 goals in 11 games.
Team News
Diego Enjamio, an Arosa midfielder, was benched over the weekend, although he might be added back. Manu Taboas will probably have his hands full in goal. He will be hoping for some support from his backline. It is anticipated to consist of central defenders Carlos Pacheco and Martin Sanchez. Because Jesus Vallejo, Miguel Angel Rubio, and Raul Fernandez are all missing due to injuries, Granada is unable to enlist their help.
After missing the loss to Villarreal due to suspension, Gerard Gumbau and Lucas Boye will be available. However, it is unlikely that the two will start the match on Thursday as Paco Lopez will be focused on Sunday’s league matchup with Valencia. Although Granada has had a difficult start to the season and we believe their weak defense could give up a goal on Thursday, we still think the elite visitors will have enough skill to go to the next round easily.
Arosa 1 – 4 Granada
