Roma vs Cremonese: Preview
Roma form analysis
AS Roma has shown inconsistent league form recently, with two wins, a draw, and two losses across their last five Serie A matches. Their most recent result was a disappointing 1-0 loss away to rivals Juventus on December 31st after conceding in the second half. This follows an impressive 2-0 home victory over league leaders Napoli on December 24th, with late goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Romelu Lukaku earning the win. Prior to that, however, was an alarming 2-0 loss away at Bologna on December 17th with an own goal from Rasmus Kristensen contributing to their downfall.
Roma then played Fiorentina to a 1-1 home draw on December 11th, taking an early Lukaku lead before being pegged back in the second half. This inconsistent run started with a come-from-behind 2-1 away win at Sassuolo on December 3rd, powered by goals from Lukaku and Kristensen. While Roma has shown the capacity to beat top competition, defensive mistakes and a struggle to put together 90-minute performances has led to mixed results under Jose Mourinho. Addressing these issues will be paramount in pushing for a Champions League place.
Cremonese form analysis
Cremonese has endured a rollercoaster run of form in recent Serie B action, posting two wins, two losses, and a draw over their last 5 matches across all competitions. Their most recent result was an unfortunate 3-2 loss away at fellow promotion hopefuls Palermo on December 26th, twice going ahead but conceded late after seeing Vladislav Antov sent off. This follows an excellent 4-0 home thrashing of Modena on December 23rd led by a brace from Charles Pickel. Prior to that, however, Cremonese suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss away to third division FeralpiSalò in Coppa Italia action on December 16th.
Cremonese had bounced back from a dull 0-0 draw away to Pisa by earning a crucial 1-0 home win over Venezia on December 9th courtesy of a late Luca Ravanelli winner. So while the attack has come alive with key contributions from Ravanelli, Ghiglione and Pickel, defensive issues have undermined Cremonese’s promotion push under coach Massimiliano Alvini. Addressing these fluctuations will be vital in securing promotion and eventually stability in Serie A next season.
