Coventry City will be hoping to stay in the playoff places when they visit Plymouth Argyle. After having their recent run of league victories put to an end over the weekend, Plymouth is now down in 15th place, while the visitors are in sixth place.
Preview (Plymouth Argyle vs. Coventry City)
One could forgive Coventry for considering a possible trip to Wembley Stadium later in the season, given their upcoming home FA Cup fifth-round matchup against non-league Maidstone United. But getting back to the Premier League is still their top goal. Coventry’s 2-1 loss to Norwich City at the start of the month is still their lone league loss in 12 games. After trailing at the half, Coventry defeated Robins 2-1 thanks to two goals from Haji Wright. It secured the team’s temporary playoff berth.
The stakes are high before playing a squad that has previously avoided problems. Ian Foster has shown up at Home Park and allayed any fears. Seven points have been gained from four Championship games, with wins against Cardiff City and Swansea City. However, they were unable to build on a halftime lead when playing Sunderland last weekend. They ultimately lost 3-1 at the Stadium of Light. Positively, Plymouth has won eight of their last 14 games at Home Park and only lost three. They have maintained one of the finest home records in the Championship.
Team News
Foster may decide to make changes to his Plymouth team following a challenging week of matches against Sunderland and Leeds United, which included extra time. At wing-back, Lino Sousa might get his first Plymouth start, with Matthew Sorinola perhaps starting on the other flank. Ashley Phillips, a Tottenham Hotspur loanee, has made six starts in a comparatively short period, maybe persuading Foster to give him a break and give Julio Pleguezuelo a start. However, injuries prevent Michael Cooper, Jordan Houghton, and Mustapha Bundu from playing.
Ellis Simms may rejoin the Coventry team, possibly to take Kasey Palmer’s place, but there won’t be many changes. Jamie Allen and Ben Sheaf are still sidelined due to injuries, and defender Liam Kitching is still serving his suspension.
