Lichenstein will be looking for their first points when they host Bosnia-Herzogovina in the Euro 2024 qualifying. Bosnia is in fourth place in the qualification process after six games. The home team, which has lost all six of its games, is at the bottom of the division.
Preview (Liechtenstein vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina)
Since Liechtenstein has never participated in a major tournament final, they have gone almost 20 years without winning a World Cup qualification match, and they have only won twice in their last four European qualification campaigns, their struggles in Group J are not all that surprising. The national team lost to Portugal 4-0 to start their Euro 2024 qualification campaign. They have lost five straight games, including a 7-0 setback to Iceland back in March. The outcomes of the team’s last four games have been closer since Konrad Funfstuck took over as head coach in June.
In their six games, Liechtenstein has only scored once and given up 19 goals. However, three of their final four group games are at home. It would be a success if they could pick up some victories. The Blue Reds have not won since a 2-1 friendly victory over Luxembourg in October 2020. They are now on a 19-game losing streak in all competitions. Bosnia-Herzegovina has experience playing in World Cup finals. They participated in the 2014 event but failed to advance past the group stage. They have never participated in a European Championship.
The national team has actually lost in the playoffs in three of their most recent attempts to advance to the finals of a European Championship, but they still have a lot of work to do in Group J given that they are now in fourth place in the standings after a disappointing season. Savo Milosevic’s team has six points after winning two and losing four of their six games. It puts them seven points adrift of Slovakia in second position with the same number of games played. The Dragons will be conscious of the significance of winning all three points in this game. They will be coming off a discouraging 1-0 loss to Iceland in their previous outing.
Team News
The Liechtenstein team is noticeably without Ferhat Saglam, therefore at least one change will need to be made from the lineup that began the previous match against Slovakia, which ended in a three-goal loss. Sandro Wieser and Aron Sele should once more play in midfield. Julien Hasler, 34, who might be in line for just his third national team appearance, could benefit. With four goals, Dennis Salanovic leads the Liechtenstein team in goals scored. The 27-year-old is currently without a club team after leaving Spanish team CF Talavera in July. While everything is going on, four key players for Bosnia-Herzegovina are out injured: Adnan Kovacevic, Dennis Hadzikadunic, Rade Krunic, and Benjamin Tahirovic.
Edin Dzeko will again lead the line on Friday night because he has 65 goals for his country and is still an important player at the age of 37. Ermedin Demirovic is anticipated to start alongside Dzeko in attack, while Miralem Pjanic, Gojko Cimirot, and Miroslav Stevanovic may start in center midfield. Although Bosnia-Herzegovina hasn’t exactly performed well in this area and will be without some key players on Friday, we still believe the visitors will be too strong for Liechtenstein and are tipping them to win this game rather easily.
