Villareal will be looking for their third win when they visit Getafe in the La Liga on Saturday. The Yellow Submarine are now in 14th place in the table after only scoring seven points. Getafe are in 10th place with eight points.
Preview (Getafe vs. Villarreal)
Getafe currently sits in the tenth spot in the standings after playing seven league games this season. They have won two, drawn two, and lost three times for a total of eight points. Only one point was earned by Jose Bordalas’ team in their opening two matches of the season. They have since won two of their last five, defeating Alaves and Osasuna at home while suffering just two losses. Getafe comes into this game off a 2-2 draw with Athletic Bilbao. Athletic Bilbao twice took the lead at San Mames but Getafe rallied with goals in the 83rd and 84th minutes.
The Deep Blue Ones have finished 15th in each of their last three league campaigns. From 2018 and 2020, they were eighth, fifth, and eighth, showing promise. Getafe hasn’t defeated Villarreal in Spain’s top division since January 2019. The two teams drew 0-0 in a comparable matchup last season to split the points. It is safe to say that Villarreal’s 2023–24 season has had a rocky beginning. The team finished fifth in La Liga the previous season, seven points below the top four.
Villarreal currently sits in 14th place in the table after winning two, drawing one, and losing four of their seven La Liga games this season. The Yellow Submarine have lost two of their past three games, including a 2-0 loss to Panathinaikos in the Europa League on September 21. They have only won one of their last six games overall. Last weekend, Villarreal and Rayo Vallecano drew 1-1 in a league encounter. However, Villarreal comes into this match after losing to table-topping Girona 2-1 at home. The visitors came from behind to win at Estadio de la Ceramica.
Team News
Due to injuries, Getafe will be without the services of two first-team players: Enes Unal and Luis Milla will sit out for the capital team. With his first start for Bordalas’s team against Athletic, Englishman Mason Greenwood, who is on loan from Manchester United to the team, should keep his spot in the starting lineup for this match. Latasa’s goal against the Lions, which he scored while playing off the bench, certainly earned him a position in the starting lineup, with Borja Mayoral perhaps sitting out the match against Villarreal. Jorge Cuenca and Francis Coquelin, though, will undoubtedly be out of commission for the visitors due to injury.
Against Girona, Villarreal was also without Gerard Moreno and Denis Suarez, who are both still very questionable, despite Alberto Moreno’s return from a ban. Ilias Akhomach might be introduced in the last third of the field, but head coach Pacheta is anticipated to resist the urge to make significant changes to the lineup that began Wednesday’s defeat. Due to the Yellow Submarine’s current struggles to get going this year, Villarreal is a difficult team to support at present. We are betting on a draw in this match since Getafe has also been erratic but has performed well at home, taking up seven of a possible nine points.
