Denmark will host Kazakhstan in Group H of Euro 2024 qualifying in a decisive clash. As well as Denmark and Kazakhstan, the top four teams are only separated by one point. It makes this potentially one of the most crucial games left in each team’s campaign.
Preview (Denmark vs. Kazakhstan)
Due to the absence of a major European power in Group H, Denmark would have believed that they were given one of the more advantageous options during the qualifying draw. However, the Scandinavian country is finding it difficult to place in the top two. They only drew 1-1 in Slovenia after losing 3-2 to Kazakhstan in the reverse match. The latter outcome is one of the campaign’s most memorable scorelines. Kazakhstan came back from a 2-0 deficit with 20 minutes left to earn one of their finest victories ever. Since then, Kasper Hjulmand’s team has amassed a four-game unbeaten run. Their 1-0 wins over Northern Ireland and Finland were decided by a narrow VAR decision in their favor.
The goal by the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder pushed Denmark one point ahead of Finland and into second place. As a result of their results in the UEFA Nations League, Kazakhstan is already guaranteed a playoff spot. They attempt to qualify for a major tournament for the first time ever. Currently, six games have resulted in 12 points, including the aforementioned victory over Denmark in March. Their last five games have resulted in four victories. The fact that they narrowly defeated Northern Ireland 1-0 at home the previous time out.
With the exception of a match against the underdog San Marino, Kazakhstan will play all of its direct competitors away from home. Despite this, they may welcome the challenge because they know what they may gain if they can win at least four games in Denmark, Finland, and Slovenia.
Team News
Due to an injury, Andreas Skov Olsen had to leave late from the game. Hjulmand will now need to make a substitution on the right wing, perhaps inserting Robert Skov. Rasmus Hojlund of Manchester United is vying to replace Jonas Wind at the heart of the Denmark attack now that he is fully healthy.
If he continues to use the same 3-4-2-1 configuration from the match against Northern Ireland, Adiyev might only make one adjustment to Kazakhstan’s starting lineup. There is a sense that anything can happen in this match given the unpredictable nature of this group. Although Kazakhstan has won twice while traveling, they haven’t encountered opponents of the caliber of Denmark, and they risk losing this time.
