Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt: Preview
Leipzig form analysis
RB Leipzig have shown inconsistent form over their past five Bundesliga games. On 25th November, they suffered a disappointing 1-2 away loss to Wolfsburg despite Poulsen equalizing after going behind early to Wind’s opener. Things improved on 2nd December with a hard fought 2-1 home win over Heidenheim courtesy of Openda’s penalty and Poulsen, either side of Gimber briefly leveling right on halftime. However, Leipzig found scoring form on 9th December by beating Borussia Dortmund 2-3 away, benefiting from an own goal before late goals from Poulsen and Baumgartner earned the points despite brief fightbacks from Süle and Füllkrug.
Their positive momentum carried on 16th December by beating Hoffenheim 3-1 at home through goals from Klostermann, Forsberg and Simakan after conceding once to Kabak. However, leaner results returned on 19th December as they were held to a 1-1 away draw by Werder Bremen, going ahead through Openda but pegged back by Njinmah. Overall, Leipzig have shown productivity in attack but their defensive vulnerability remains an issue to address if they are to make a sustained title push.
Eintracht Frankfurt form analysis
Eintracht Frankfurt had shown promising early season form but have struggled for consistency in their past five Bundesliga matches. On 25th November, they suffered a disappointing 1-2 home loss to Stuttgart, leveling briefly through an own goal before Undav scored either side for the visitors. Things got worse on 4th December with a 1-2 away defeat at Augsburg, undone by first half goals from Jensen and Iago before a late consolation own goal.
However, Frankfurt bounced back with an emphatic 5-1 home thrashing of Bayern Munich on 9th December, scoring three inside the first 36 minutes through Marmoush, Dina Ebimbe and Larsson before Dina Ebimbe and Knauff added gloss either side of Kimmich’s reply. But positive momentum stalled on 17th December with a chastening 0-3 home loss to Bayer Leverkusen, unable to handle the visitors’ ruthlessness. Most recently, Frankfurt left it very late at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach on 21st December, scoring twice in added time through substitutes Buta and Koch to overturn Wöber’s opener and claim the vital points. Overall, Frankfurt must address concerning defensive issues that have seen them concede 11 times during this spell.
