Chelsea vs Manchester City: Preview
Chelsea form analysis
Chelsea’s recent run of games has showcased an exciting new-look attack but familiar issues in defense persist. They started with an expected 2-0 away win at local rivals Fulham thanks to goals from new boys Mudryk and Broja. However, problems at the back surfaced next game despite beating Burnley 4-1 away, afforded too many chances after going ahead. This continued in their next match, a six goal thriller in a 2-2 home draw with Arsenal – twice surrendering leads after going ahead through Palmer and Mudryk.
Chelsea’s defensive struggles remained evident next game in a disappointing 0-2 home loss to Brentford, passive first half defending costing them. Most recently though, their new attacking talents shone in a stunning 4-1 away thrashing of Spurs, powered by a late Jackson hat-trick after equalizing through Palmer. Overall, Chelsea’s new signings have added flair going forward but defensive lapses continue to hold them back.
Manchester City form analysis
City’s recent run of games has showcased their trademark slick attacking play mixed with some uncharacteristic defensive issues. They started with a disappointing 1-2 home loss to Wolves, caught out from set pieces despite Ãlvarez equalizing. There was no such problems next game however, comfortably controlling Arsenal in a 1-0 away win thanks to Martinelli’s late goal against the run of play.
Normal service resumed as City beat Brighton 2-1 at home, going ahead early through Ãlvarez and Haaland before defending resolutely after conceding. Back to their best next up, City tore apart rivals Man Utd 3-0 at home in a dominant display. Haaland and Foden were on target. Most recently, their attacking brilliance was on full show again in a 6-1 home thrashing of Bournemouth. Putting the game to bed by halftime before Haaland’s replacement Doku netted late on. Overall, City remain the team to beat this season with their wealth of attacking talents but need to iron out uncharacteristic defensive lapses.
