Ahead of the marquee event lot of buzz has already been created with the franchisees taking big moves & either releasing or trading their players with the motive of entering the IPL 2024 auction with a bigger purse. As per the list released by the BCCI, around 1166 players will go under the hammer which promises to be an absolute blockbuster event for the fans.
But there are chances that some players might fail to get a good deal for themselves. This might be their current form or inability to perform in the ODI World Cup 2023 they might go unsold during the IPL 2024 Auction. So without wasting time let’s have a look at the Players who might go unsold during the much-anticipated IPL 2024 Auction
Players who might go unsold in IPL 2024 Auction
-
Adil Rashid
England’s prolific spinner Adil Rashid was picked by SRH during the IPL 2023 auctions for a massive 2 crores. However, the experienced leg spinner couldn’t perform well with the ball & ended up scalping just two wickets at a miserable economy of 10 in two matches. Considering Adil’s poor performance Sunrisers Hyderabad has released him ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Now Adil will enter the mega event under a good base price. Although Adil Rashid has ample experience in the shortest format of cricket his current base price of 2 crore might hamper his chances of getting picked. This is because the teams prefer picking local spinners considering turning Indian pitches.
-
Kedar Jadhav
The not-so-prime player of India’s ODI team, Kedar Jadhav cuts into the list of players who might go unsold in the IPL 2024 auction. Kesar was selected as the replacement player for England’s all-rounder David Willey. But he was taken in just two matches in IPL 2023 amassing 12 runs in 10 balls. He has a base price of 2 crores & without any performance to show there are fewer chances of franchisees picking him up in this price group. In addition to that his age & recent form don’t make him a go-to man in the franchisees’ checklist.
-
Matthew Short
The Australian all-rounder hailed for his all-round capabilities has grabbed the limelight during the BBL 2022-23 when he guided Strikers to victory with both bat & ball. But the prolific player couldn’t do well in the IPL as he could just score 117 runs at a strike rate of 127.17 in six innings. Despite being given enough chances in the Australian T20I squad, Short has failed to step up & deliver. So considering all the factors we don’t expect him to get selected by any franchise in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction.
-
Jhye Richardson
Another Australian has grabbed a place on the list of players who might go unsold during the IPL 2024 auction. The next on our list is Jhye Richardson whose career hasn’t reached the heights of success due to injury setbacks & layoffs. He is the one who can make the new ball talk & give batters a tough time. However, injuries have been the major obstacle in the growth of his career. Richardson was bought by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 auction but he couldn’t play much in the league as a hamstring injury ruled him out of the tournament with Riley Meredith walking in as a replacement. Considering his poor form & prone to injuries we think that Richardson could hardly get any buyers in the IPL 2024 auction.
-
Odean Smith
The all-rounder from West Indies has become the center of attraction after his exploits in the Caribbean Premier League. But he couldn’t continue the same form in the IPL with Punjab Kings which resulted in Gujarat Titans buying him for 50 lakhs in the mega auction. But even the Titans couldn’t give him any game & eventually, they released him before the IPL 2024 auction. Now the all-rounder will enter the mega auctions with the hope of getting a buyer. But we can’t ignore his mediocre form with both bat & ball which might result in Smith going unsold in the upcoming auction.
-
Dinesh Karthik
The other big name who can go unsold in the IPL 2024 auction is none other than wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik. The prolific player has played minimum cricket in 2023 & was seen doing more commentary. Even his performance in the IPL 2023 was not up to the mark as he ended up scoring just 140 runs in 13 matches without any fifty or hundred. Looking at his form & the fact that RCB has released him we think that Karthik will go unsold in the mega auctions.
-
Manish Pandey
One of the most talented players in IPL history, Manish Pandey is shockingly another batter who is on the list of players who might go unsold in the IPL 2024 auction. He was bought by SRH for 11 cores. But after displaying a mediocre performance in the cash-rich league his value fell to 4.60 crores when LSG bought him in 2022. He later went to Delhi Capitals at 2.40 cores where he couldn’t display a stunning performance & as a result, there are chances that he could go unsold in this auction.
-
Jaydev Unadkat
Another shocking inclusion in the list of players who could go unsold in IPL 2024 is Jaydev Unadkat. Jaydev’s IPL contract has seen a massive dip after being acquired by RR for a massive 11.5 crores in IPL 2018 auction. In 2019, he was bought for INR 8.4 crores while in IPL 2020 & 2021 he made 3 crores. Then in 2022, there came a surprising inclusion by Mumbai Indians who bought his services for 1.3 crores. However, his poor performance in the IPL 2022 has reduced his value in the IPL 2023 auctions.
-
Steve Smith
Aussies great Steve Smith is another player on the list of players who might go unsold in the IPL 2024 auction. He has not played in the last two seasons of IPL & has registered for the upcoming edition of the league. But considering his lack of exposure in the Indian premier league & the fact that he couldn’t perform well for RR in the 2018 edition might result in Smith going unsold in the upcoming edition of the auction.
-
Obed McCoy
Another player who might go unsold in the IPL 2024 is Obed McCoy. He was a part of RR in 2022 & right in his debut IPL season he turned the heads around by scalping 11 wickets at an economy of 9.17. In 2023, he got just one match to prove his prowess but he didn’t get a chance to do much in that period. Against SRH he could bowl just one over & give away 13 runs. In that crucial game, he dropped Andul Samad from the team which reduced RR’s chances of qualification. McCoy has against registered for the IPL 2024 auction & there are chances that he can go unsold in the upcoming auction. This is because his bowling figures were not too overwhelming which could be a huge reason for him getting unsold in the auction.
