India Captain, Rohit Sharma’s statement came days after the BCCI excluded Ishan Kishan & Shreyas Iyer from the Central Contracts 2023-24 list. Both the players had refused to play in the Ranji Trophy & the results were that both of them were excluded from the central contracts list. After missing the quarterfinals, Shreyas turned out for Mumbai against Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy 2024 semifinals.

At a Press Conference ahead of the fifth Test against India vs England in Dharamsala beginning on March 7, Rohit Sharma emphasized the board & management’s take on the significance of domestic cricket.
Rohit emphasized the importance of players being proactive in participating in domestic cricket, especially when they are fit and available. He stressed that this expectation applies to all cricketers, not just a select few, and urged everyone to prioritize playing domestic matches whenever possible.
There have been mixed reviews on BCCI’s decision to exclude Ishan & Shreyas from the contracts list. There are crciket pundits who pointed out that there are other senior players who have not featured in domestic cricket in recent times & still have been handed central contracts.

Meanwhile the final of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 will be played from March 10 to 14 on the grounds of Wankhede Stadium.
