WWE Raw’s one of the best commentators, Pat McAfee, has recently announced that he is going on a long-term break from his work. McAfee first made this big announcement via his Instagram story. Then, on the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, his co-commentator Michael Cole officially announced his long-term departure. He might be back to his WWE duties by January next year, when WWE moves to its new home, Netflix.
Michael Cole expressed his sadness on Raw
Pat McAfee first made the official announcement of his departure on Instagram by posting a video and writing, “Last Monday Night Raw Monday…woke up a bit emotional about it all.” He further mentioned that it’s great that football season is starting, but WWE is where he needs to be. He knows that, and he hopes WWE fans know that.
On this week’s episode of Raw, Michael Cole stated that it is a sad night for him because the guy sitting next to him (Pat McAfee) is leaving him for the next few months because of the football season.
“This man in my right, one of my best friends on the entire planet, I mean that sincerely. We spent so much time together. But Pat is leaving us for the next couple of months because he is heading off to football season,” said Cole. After the announcement, WWE showed a clip containing Pat McAfee’s moments on the broadcast team over the past few months.
Pat McAfee thanked WWE Universe
McAfee made a surprise entry at Royal Rumble 2024 but was intentionally eliminated. He has been the voice behind many great matches and events of the company, including WrestleMania 40. While talking about his departure from Raw, Pat said, “This is a place where I feel like I’m at home and this is my family. I’m so lucky I get to do this. I will see you in a few months…This is a dream come true and it’s all because of Michael Cole at the end of the day. Thank you everyone. I’ve been emotional all day.”

Pat hosts a show named “College GameDay” on ESPN and the college season is set to begin next week. Apart from this, he has also been given the responsibility of covering NFL games in the coming season. So, McAfee will not be available for commentary in WWE for the coming few months. McAfee has not only just commentated in WWE, interestingly he once fought Austin Theory at WrestleMania 38 and defeated him. Moreover, he has also had a good career in football.
