Paris Saint-Germain vs Montpellier: Preview
Paris Saint-Germain form analysis
PSG’s recent run of games has showcased their attacking brilliance, with Mbappe and newcomers Ramos and Hakimi all impressing. They started with a stunning 4-0 home thrashing of rivals Marseille thanks to goals from Hakimi, Kolo Muani and a Ramos double. However, they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw away at Clermont, dominating possession but failing to break through a stubborn defense. PSG’s attack ignited again in a 1-3 away win at Rennes, going ahead through Vitinha before Hakimi and Kolo Muani sealed the points.
They followed up with an emphatic 3-0 home win over Strasbourg courtesy of goals from Mbappe, Soler and Ruiz. Most recently, PSG edged past Brest 2-3 away in a thriller settled by a late Mbappe winner after squandering a two goal lead. Overall, PSG have looked extremely slick in attack but focus must now turn to tightening up defensively after keeping just 1 clean sheet in this spell. However, with Mbappe in scintillating form, they remain the team to beat this season.
Montpellier form analysis
Montpellier’s recent run of games has shown signs of promise but inconsistency remains an issue. They started with an entertaining 2-2 away draw at Strasbourg – twice taking the lead through Khazri and Nordin but conceding avoidable equalizers. A goalless home draw with Rennes displayed defensive solidity but a lack of attacking spark. Things improved with an emphatic 0-3 away win at Lorient thanks to a brace from the impressive Adams and Savanier penalty.
However, they came back down to earth with a disappointing 0-2 home loss to Nantes, failing to get going and punished by sloppiness at the back. Most recently, Montpellier returned to form in style, dispatching Toulouse 3-0 at home courtesy of another Adams brace and Fayad goal. Overall, Montpellier have shown they can be dangerous going forward with the likes of Khazri and Adams impressing.
