Paris Saint-Germain vs Marseille: Preview
Paris Saint-Germain form analysis
PSG have made an inconsistent start domestically despite Mbappe’s prolific goalscoring. They began with a disappointing 1-1 draw at Toulouse, needing a late Mbappe penalty to salvage a point.
A 3-1 home win over Lens followed as Mbappe netted twice, showing their firepower. But defensive issues resurfaced in a shock 2-3 home loss to Nice, with two goals from Moffi condemning PSG to defeat despite Mbappe scoring again. In the Champions League though, PSG produced an improved display to beat Dortmund 2-0 through goals from Mbappe and Hakimi.
Overall, PSG’s form has been patchy despite Mbappe’s brilliance upfront. Defensive vulnerabilities, especially on the counter, have been exposed already this term. But new signings like Asensio have added quality in attack. If PSG can tighten up at the back, they still have amazing potential in forward areas. The manager Luis Enrique needs to make them more solid and organized defensively for PSG to meet expectations this season.
Marseille form analysis
Marseille began the season with a narrow 2-1 home win against Reims thanks to goals from Ounahi and Vítinha. They followed that up with a 2-2 away draw against Metz after surrendering a lead twice in the game. Marseille then bounced back with an impressive 2-0 home win over Brest, showing defensive solidity and goals from Mbemba and Sarr. However, they dropped points in their next match as they were held to a 1-1 draw away at Nantes despite Sarr putting them ahead early on. Most recently, Marseille failed to break down Toulouse at home as they were held to a 0-0 draw.
Overall, Marseille have made an inconsistent start to the new campaign. They have shown they can grind out wins but also looked vulnerable defensively at times. New signings like Mbemba have strengthened the spine of the team. Going forward, Sarr and Vítinha have impressed. However, Marseille’s form has been too erratic so far.
