Paris Saint-Germain vs Brest: Preview
Paris Saint-Germain form analysis
PSG continued their dominant form over the past month to hold a sizable lead atop Ligue 1. A hard fought 1-1 draw at Lille maintained their unbeaten record as Mbappe’s penalty salvaged a point after falling behind late on. This was followed up by a comfortable 3-1 home win over Metz as Mbappe helped himself to a brace. A professional 2-0 victory away at Lens came next with Barcola and Mbappe on target in a controlled display.
However, PSG then needed a 90th minute Barcola equaliser to rescue a 2-2 home draw with Brest – disappointing after leading 2-0 at the break. Most recently, it took late winners from Mbappe and Asensio to beat a stubborn Strasbourg side 2-1. So while rarely hitting top form, manager Luis Enrique will be satisfied with continuing to grind out results even when underwhelming. With Mbappe in unstoppable form, if able to regain early season fluency in phases of play, PSG look near impossible to stop.
Brest form analysis
Brest put together an encouraging run of form over the past month. They started by claiming an excellent 2-0 away win at struggling Nantes thanks to second half goals from Magnetti and Mounié. What followed was a stunning 4-0 thrashing of local rivals Lorient with star striker Doumbia bagging an incredible hat-trick inside 30 minutes. Brest then battled to a hard fought 2-0 home victory over Montpellier courtesy of Magnetti and Le Douaron strikes.
Most impressive though was coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home with mighty PSG – Camara and Lage securing a point. Though failing to build on that with a goalless home draw against Nice last time out, manager Eric Roy can be hugely satisfied with this run. Much improved organisation and shape without the ball has provided the platform, with Doumbia’s lethal finishing proving the difference at the other end. If able to sustain this form, They could reach the top of the table.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Brest: Prediction
The minimum number of goals that were scored in the previous nine Ligue 1 fixtures at this venue is three. Meanwhile just one of Brest’s previous five Coupe de France fixtures on the road ended up having fewer than three goals. In all possibilities expect a high scoring game.
Stade Brestois were knocked out just once from the Coupe de France on the road in regulation time since 2017. Therefore, I do not see them going down without a fight on Wednesday.
