Mohammed Shami, a prominent pacer for India, has been outstanding lately. In 2023, his outstanding bowling display enabled India to advance to the ODI World Cup finals. But ever since, an injury has been keeping him out of the game. Speaking about communal harmony in India, pacer Mohammed Shami recently received the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.
Amidst the inauguration of the recently constructed Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Shami recently discussed the state of Muslims in India in an interview. Shami stated that everyone should chant “Jai Shree Ram” in response to a question about the chants. Every community, he thinks, has ten or twelve sick individuals who spread animosity towards other communities in order to further their own agendas.
Pacer Mohammed Shami gets candid:

He retorted, “No if we discuss Muslims and Hindus, everyone has equal rights. We wouldn’t be here if there had been a problem (for Muslims). In the same way, a non-Muslim cannot reside somewhere they encounter problems.”
On social media, though, you have seen some individuals chanting Jai Shree Ram and others causing riots; they only desire that. Their goal is to sow discord. They have no further desires. We share the 50/50 population of both communities in my village, and we honour each other’s festivals when they fall on our calendar.
Speaking further, Shami asserts that there is no way to resolve the current state of affairs and social media trends. He added that players are frequently questioned for losing games and then given credit for their performance the following day. Shami thinks that each person should be respected for their uniqueness.
He said, “People blame us for losing the game because there was no ball and it was wide, so there’s nothing you can do about it. Everybody is unique, and this includes the way they live and think. Every religion has ten or fifteen zealots who disrespect other communities and stir up trouble. I will recite Jai Shree Ram a thousand times if I so choose; in the same way, I will recite Allah hu Akbar. This is non-negotiable.”
