World Cup 2023: Afghanistan receives support from local fans
At the 13th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 on Sunday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Afghanistan stunned England by 69 runs to win. Rashid Khan thanked the Delhi fans on his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account after Afghanistan’s exciting victory. He also expressed gratitude to the team’s supporters at the stadium and around the globe.
Rashid Khan wrote on X, “Delhi mein dil walon ki hai. I want to express my gratitude to all of the spectators for their support and encouragement throughout the contest. And thank you for your love to all of our supporters throughout the world.”
England vs Afghanistan
In the first inning of the game, Rahmanulah Gurbaz scored 80 runs off of 57 balls. Gurbaz had assistance from Ikram Alikhil, who set a 285-run goal by scoring 58 runs off of 66 balls.
The English bowling assault was led by Adil Rashid, who claimed three wickets for 42 runs. Mark Wood took two wickets in his nine overs.
Harry Brook hit 66 runs in 61 balls during the run chase, but no other English batsman was able to surpass the 50-run threshold against Afghanistan’s bowling assault.
In his 10-over stint, Mujeeb Ur Rahman grabbed three wickets and conceded 51 runs, earning him the title of Player of the Match. Additionally, Rashid Khan claimed three wickets for 37 runs. Two wickets were taken during Mohammad Nabi’s six-over spell.
Afghanistan defeated England in their opening match of the competition after falling to India earlier. After only winning one game in the ODI World Cup, they are now in sixth place with 2023 points.
At Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday, Afghanistan will play its following game against New Zealand.
On Monday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union minister Giriraj Singh mentioned the Afghanistan versus England match in the ongoing 2023 Cricket World Cup. He asserted that religion has nothing to do with the support of the crowd.
