Cricketer Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has been dominating the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The Indian team’s leading run-scorer in the competition thus far is Rohit. The right-handed batter has four games under his belt and a respectable strike rate of 108.98 runs per game.
AB de Villiers, a former renowned South African cricketer, spoke about Rohit reaching the milestone and showered him with praise. Rohit has also amassed 10,000 ODI runs in his career. After former India captain Virat Kohli, Rohit became the player to reach 10,000 runs in the ODI format the second-fastest.
India Today cited de Villiers as adding, “Rohit was the second fastest to 10,000 runs but the fourth slowest to 2000 runs. What do you call a comeback? I’m very impressed by him. I thought this guy had something special to give when I first saw him play. The quality I admire most about him is that he has always had a battling spirit, even as a little child. He would not yield to anyone.”
Villiers hails cricketer Rohit Sharma:
De Villiers also recalled Rohit’s ability to stand up to some of the best fast bowlers, including Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn, during a Test match in Durban. The former captain of South Africa praised Rohit for his outstanding fighting spirit, saying it greatly impressed him.
He further adds, “I recall a Test match in Durban where he flat-out refused to stand back to any of our fast bowlers, including Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel. He would look you in the eye. If someone made a noise. He would be facing them directly with his chest out. I’ve always enjoyed that. I wasn’t enjoying it at the moment because he was there to defeat us. But looking back, he always had this amazing sense of tenacity,”
On the work front, the current captain of India’s men’s cricket team across all formats is Indian international cricketer Rohit Gurunath Sharma.
