The India women’s team increased their lead to 157 runs on Day 2 of the one-day Test match against Australia on Friday, December 22nd, solidifying their hold on the match. With Deepti Sharma (70* off 147) and Pooja Vastrakar (33* off 115) at the wicket, the Women in Blue concluded the day on 376/7. Even though India had a fantastic day on the field, the poor quality of the seats provided to the supporters in the stands left them feeling a little irritated at the Wankhede Stadium.
Notably, all spectators at the Wankhede Stadium will receive free admission to watch the match courtesy of the Maharashtra Cricket Association. However, the uncleanliness of the sands made their visit to the venue unmemorable. Social media users have been sharing a video of the event, in which the unclean seats in the stands are seen.
Netizens upset at Wankhede Stadium maintenance:
Returning to the game, Smriti Mandhana (43*) and Sneh Rana (4*) were at the crease as India resumed their innings on Day 2 of the innings at 98/1 in 19 overs. Together, they scored fifty runs for the second wicket before Ashleigh Gardner bowled Rana out. Unfortunately, Mandhana was run out after reaching 74 (106). She also lost her wicket.
But Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodrigues took the innings forward, scoring 113 runs for the fourth wicket. Seven fours helped Ghosh amass an incredible half-century (52 off 104) in the innings. India lost three wickets in quick succession after she was dismissed: Yastika Bhatia (1 off 7), Harmanpreet Kaur (0 off 2), and Rodrigues (73 off 121) all went cheaply, leaving India on 274/7.
India finished Day 2 on 376/7 after a burst of wickets saw Deepti Sharma (70* off 147) and Pooja Vastrakar (33* off 115) engage in an undefeated 102-run partnership for the eighth wicket. On Day 3, the pair will try to strengthen their alliance even more and build on their lead to put more pressure on Australia.
