South Africa Skipper Temba Bavuma Speaks About Chokers Tag
Unimpressed by the reporter’s inquiry, Bavuma responded sharply, stating that even if the Indian team has won all seven of its matches thus far, similar tags would not appear for them if they were to lose the tournament.
Reporter: Have you discussed avoiding choking in this crucial game since they are called constantly and this excellent hitting must have somewhat eliminated the tag?
Bavuma Temba: “To stammer? I’m not sure how to respond to that. If things don’t work out tomorrow, I don’t think choking will be an issue. If India choked and got trapped, I doubt you would say the same thing about them.
It seems like it will just come down to who breaks first and who can, I suppose, take advantage of that opportunity or that weakness between these two hot teams. We are aware that there will undoubtedly be stressful times during the World Cup—moments that we have already conquered to reach this position. We’ll do everything in our power to handle them. However, no, I haven’t heard that word spoken in the training yet.”
Amidst Rohit Sharma’s undefeated team, South Africa is riding high on their four-match winning streak. Bavuma stated that his team will take inspiration from the “positive sentiment floating around the team” as they take against Rohit Sharma’s team at Eden Gardens.
“Yadav, Kuldeep, has bowled well. He and (Ravindra) Jadeja have been taking wickets for them in the middle. Thus, they have played a significant role in that middle stage.
Over the past few years, I believe our squad has played spin fairly effectively. Thus, it would be an excellent test for us hitters to see how we handle Yadav’s and Jadeja’s challenges “he stated during the media conference held before the game,” he continued
Bavuma added that the Proteas, who have been bolstered by the addition of pacer Mohammed Shami, will need to bring their “A” game to the table to counter Indian bowling.
“You acknowledge their power and the dangers they pose. In their condition, they are a bowling attack of the highest kind. Tomorrow, we are going to need to be at the top of our game. We try to cover all our bases, make sure that we’re not surprised by anything, and get ourselves into a space where we can play our best cricket,” he stated.
