To win the WPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the Delhi Capitals in a thrilling victory on Sunday. Smriti had earlier revealed about the pep talk she got from the RCB men’s team ace player Virat Kohli.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra proposed that similar to what Virat Kohli did for the women’s team last year, captain Smriti Mandhana should visit the RCB men’s team camp ahead of the 2024 IPL season and give them a pep talk. This suggestion is made while the men’s team of RCB is still vying for an Indian Premier League (IPL) championship, despite their widespread appeal and all-star roster spanning 16 seasons.
The famous cricket player, who had returned to India after the birth of his second child, congratulated the women’s team via video call after the match and said “Well done” on winning the WPL 2024. In addition to congratulating the entire team, Kohli was seen dancing with joy.
Smriti on the RCB men’s team:
The captain of the RCB had a clever answer when Chopra teasingly asked if Mandhana would “return the favour” by going to the men’s team and giving them a pep talk. Mandhana added in, pointing out that she needed to exercise caution in her response, despite her initial laughter.
In a conversation with Jio Cinema, Mandhana stated, “Virat Kohli is one accomplished man. Having won both the Champions Trophy and the World Cup, he is a legend in the game. I think a lot of franchisee cricket is luck-based; hopefully, RCB’s luck has started with this Cup. You never know.”
RCB will make their 17th attempt to finally win the coveted trophy in the IPL 2024. They have so far advanced to three finals, losing each time in 2009, 2011 and 2016. Mumbai Indians defeated RCB in the 2011 Champions League Twenty20 final as well.
As they prepare for the 17th IPL season, RCB will take on Chennai Super Kings in the opening match on March 22 in Chennai. On Tuesday, March 19, RCB women will attend the men’s team’s RCB Unbox 2024 event in Bengaluru.
