Shoaib Akhtar and wife on social media:

It’s interesting to note that on March 1, Shoaib Akhtar and the renowned Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian batter, squared off in the famous 2003 World Cup match. This unforgettable encounter happened at the Super Sport Park in Centurion during India vs. Pakistan’s Pool-A match. Pakistan needed to win in order to move on to the knockout stages, but India had already guaranteed their spot in the Super Sixes.
In the 50 overs allotted, Pakistan managed to post a formidable total of 273/7 thanks to a magnificent century from opener Saeed Anwar. But it did set the stage for Tendulkar to produce an incredible batting display.
From the outset, Tendulkar unleashed a vicious attack on the Pakistani bowling attack in an act of pure dominance. In particular, off the last three balls of Akhtar’s opening over, he struck two boundaries and a maximum.
Tendulkar’s innings saw the onslaught continue as he scored 98 runs off of just 75 deliveries. But in his fifth over, Akhtar brought some relief when he removed the Master Blaster, who was cruelly dismissed for a mere two runs short of a century, giving Pakistan a chance.
With 26 balls remaining, it was evidently insufficient as the Men in Blue easily won by six wickets. In his allotted ten overs, Akhtar finished his spell with figures of 1/72, an impressive effort given the relentless attack, and regrettably, Pakistan were eliminated from the main event.
