Prolific Indian all-rounder Shikhar Dhawan has been granted a divorce from his wife Ayesha Dhawan by a family court in Delhi. The honorable court granted the cricketer divorce on the grounds of “Cruelty” inflicted by his estranged wife Ayesha Dhawan. People know about the duo’s love story & how they were happy together. But less did the world know that the duo were staying separately for a long time & they were not on good terms.
Shikhar Dhawan & Ayesha Mukherjee got married to each other in 2012. Later they welcomed a baby boy in their family whom the couple named Zoraver. However, for years both Ayesha & Shikhar Dhawan have been staying separately as Ayesha refused to shift with the prolific batter to India. What actually happened? Family court judge Harish Kumar who was looking into Shikhar & Ayesha Dhawan’s case accepted Dhawan’s accusations against his wife. He stated that his wife has no proof proving the allegations as false. The judge further ruled that Shikhar was subjected to mental agony as he was being forced by his wife who forced him to be in a long-distance marriage by refusing to shift to India to stay with the cricketer. Ayesha Dhawan was living in Australia even after she married Shikhar Dhawan. Because of this long-distance relationship, Shikhar had to stay away from his son for years.
After the report of Shikhar Dhawan’s divorce hit the internet the entire story behind Shikhar & Ayesha’s conflict came in front of the World. Shikhar Dhawan was mentally tortured by Ayesha Mukherjee for years. She denied him the opportunity to live with his son Zoraver & even refused to move to India due to her commitment to her daughters from her previous marriage.
Not only this but there were reports that Ayesha wanted a 99% share of Dhawan’s three properties he bought in Australia. She wanted to become the joint owner of the two other properties as well. Ayesha even had a fight with Dhawan when he took his father to a hospital during COVID-19. The prolific player stated in his petition that Ayesha used to text defamatory messages to BCCI officials & owners of IPL teams. Ayesha in her defense stated that she has only texted three of Dhawan’s friends to pressurize him for sending her monthly payments.

Lawyer Deepika Bhardwaj stated in her tweet that Shikhar Dhawan used to send 13 crore to Ayesha in 8 years of marriage despite Ayesha not living together with Shikhar for even a year in continuity.
Ayesha & Shikhar got married in 2012 & Zoraver was born in Australia so he is an Australian citizen. As Ayesha preferred to stay in Australia, Shikhar couldn’t get enough time with son Zoraver. Deepika who read the Court Judgement highlighted that Ayesha also asked Shikhar to pay money for her two daughters from her previous marriage despite receiving support from her previous husband. Shikhar event paid for their foreign travels, holidays, and even dog training. However, a breaking point in Ayesha-Shikhar’s marriage came when Shikhar refused to transfer the title of his properties owned in Australia to Ayesha’s name.
The court ruled that Ayesha was unable to prove that she didn’t compel Dhawan to make her an owner of the properties & she also contributed funds to purchase them. The court maintained that the respondent failed to prove that properties were purchased out of her fund or in her name out of Shikhar’s love & affection. Thus Dhawan’s allegations that Ayesha compelled Dhawan to make her the owner of all three properties stand true & valid. Notably, Ayesha already owned 99% of one property while being the joint owner of the other two.
Major agony for Dhawan was staying away from his son Zoraver for years. Notably, Ayesha couldn’t stay true to her commitment to staying in India with Shikhar due to the custody of her two daughters from her previous husband. This forced Shikhar to stay away from his son Zoraver for years. Dhawan used to pay her bills & even the bills & expenses of her daughters who were not his responsibility but still he used to fulfill his commitments. There were reports that when Dhawan lost his place in the National team on the back of his consistently poor performances, the relationship between the two took an ugly turn. However, the breaking point of their marriage came when Dhawan refused to transfer the title of his properties in Australia to Ayesha’s name. And decided to stand up against the mental cruelty which he had been subjected to for years by Ayesha.
Shikhar Dhawan to file another case for legal custody of Zoraver
After getting free from a toxic relationship Shiukhar Dhawan is all set to file another case for legal custody of his son Zoraver. The Delhi court has asked Ayesha to give Zoraver’s visitation rights to Shikhar but couldn’t pass any judgment on Zoraver’s custody as he is an Australian citizen & they cannot adjudicate upon it. But Harish Kumar benched Delhi court has asked Indian Government to intervene & decide on custody of Zoraver. The court has ordered Aesha to bring their son to India for visitation purposes including overnight stay with Mr Dhawan and his family and during the school holidays.
Lean Phase in Shikhar Dhawan’s Professional Career
Just like his personal life, Shikhar’s professional life too is in a mess as he has been excluded from India’s ODI squad for the ongoing World Cup 2023. The last time Shikhar Dhawan played an ODI for India was back in June 2022 against Bangladesh in a three-match ODI series. Since then he has not been selected in any squad. But Dhawan is still playing in T20 leagues & is currently the captain of the Punjab Kings team in IPL. He had a fine season in IPL 2023 where he scored 373 runs in 11 games at a strike rate of 142.91.
