Ghosal demonstrated exceptional skill as a squash player from the age group competitions forward. He was the first Indian to win the British Junior Open, which he did in 2004. Two years later, at the Delhi 2006 National Championship, Saurav triumphed over Gaurav Nandrajog. This squash player’s victory made him the “Indian National Champion.”
After numerous thrilling victories and numerous honors, the Indian government granted him the Arjuna Award in 2007. He took home two bronze medals from the men’s singles and team competitions at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. Three years later, he became the first Indian to advance to the World Squash Championship quarterfinals in Manchester, England.
After winning numerous matches and medals, Saurav began to gain notoriety as India’s emerging star.
In the singles competition, the man won a bronze medal at the 2016 South Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. Subsequently, he kept stacking the medals when he played mixed doubles and finished second, taking home a silver medal. Saurav took home two bronze medals from the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, that same year. He received one for winning the singles match and another for winning the team match.
By taking home the gold at the 2019 Asian Individual Championships, he extended his winning run. Most significantly, he became the first Indian to win a bronze medal in squash at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
