Rohit Sharma’s wife Rikita Sajdeh, recently left a comment on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Instagram post referencing her husband. On Friday, December 14, CSK honoured Rohit with a special reel on Instagram, marking the end of his captaincy with the Mumbai Indians (MI).
Under Rohit’s direction, MI has won five championships since he assumed control in 2013. Nevertheless, they abruptly removed him from his captaincy and gave Hardik Pandya the reins.
At the end of last month, they acquired Pandya from the Gujarat Titans (GT). Reportedly, Hardik Pandya didn’t come back until he was given the go-ahead to be named captain. The Mumbai Indians officially announced the guard change on Friday via their social media accounts.
Rohit Sharma’s wife Rikita Sajdeh goes viral:
As Rohit Sharma’s successful IPL leadership journey came to an end, CSK congratulated him on his accomplishments via their official Instagram handle. Ritika Sajdeh replied to the post with a yellow heart emoji.
Fans of Rohit Sharma on social media expressed disappointment with the decision, with some believing that the veteran batter ought to have kept leading the five-time champions. With the Mumbai Indians appointing Hardik Pandya as the team’s captain for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season next year, things don’t seem to be going well between the pair.
All MI and Rohit fans were shocked to learn that Pandya had not only rejoined the team but had also been named captain after he had supposedly made that condition clear before leaving the Gujarat Titans, where he had captained the team for two seasons.
It was also clear from Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh’s response to the Chennai Super Kings’ homage video to the Hitman and his time as MI captain that she was unhappy with the Mumbai team management’s choice.
A rift between MI and Rohit Sharma:
In a video that they also released, MI thanked and congratulated Rohit on the wonderful memories he created while leading the team. However, Ritika and Rohit remained silent about it. After Rohit Sharma replaced Ricky Ponting as captain of MI in 2013, he became the first captain in history to win five IPL titles and the Champions League T20 competition.
Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer was taken aback by the Mumbai Indians’ sudden decision to replace their captain. Jaffer shared his thoughts on the development in a conversation on ESPNcricinfo, saying: “I’m surprised that MI has moved on from Rohit Sharma so early. I’m a little surprised, too, at how quickly it happened. It is likely that Hardik was informed during the trade that he would be joining as captain. However, I’m not sure if Rohit was informed of it.”
He further added, “A couple of the guys had a good chance of becoming the captain. The Indian team’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, is one of them. He has done a great job leading. Jasprit Bumrah, who led India in Test cricket, was another. I hope that was conveyed very clearly.”
